Adas Shalom Synagogue, par-
ticipating last Saturday evening
in the 'congregation's "spectacu-
lar of the month" . for youth
group members, had an even
more sensational time than was
anticipated.
The extra added feature was
an unplanned ride in a police
paddy wagon, which proved to
be at least as exciting as the
evening's main attraction.
Departing from the syna-
gogue in two buses—destination
unknown—the youngsters and
their adult chaperones were
enjoying a mystery trip, one of
a series . of monthly events
planned for them.
On the Lodge Expressway, an
accident slowed traffic abruptly,
and the second bus rammed
into the rear of the other ve-
hicle. Both buses were put
out of commission.
The youngsters clambered
out of the buses in orde-rly
fashion, and climbed the ramp
at Pallister. In quick order they
were shuttled by two police
paddy wagons to their destina-
tion—Masonic Temple and the
Inbal Dance Troupe from Israel.
Each of the police wagons,
directed by Sgt. Campbell, of
the 13th Precinct, made two
trips. The last of the youths
arrived only a few minutes late.
After the Inbal performance,
the group was met by two more
buses and proceeded to a local
nitery without further incident.
None of the youngsters had
more than a bruise or two,
al though two chaperones, Mrs.
Shimon Gewirtz and Mrs.
Nicholas Fenakel were taken to
Receiving Hospital with minor
injuries and later released.
