Sam Winkelman Dies;
Unveil Monument
Was Wassau Merchant for Mrs. Rottenberg
An uncle of Isadore Winkel-
man, surviving founder of a
ladies apparel chain here, died
Jan. 26, in Wassau, Wis. He
was Sam Winkelman, who oper-
ated stores in Manistique and
Manistee early in the 1900's
before opening a shop in Was-
sau in 1910.
A member of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek here for 50 years, Mr.
Winkelman also had been ac-
tive in Zionist circles and in
Wassau civic affairs.
He leaves a son, Cassius, of
Wassau; three grandchildren,
including Mrs. Arnold Belsky,
of Oak Park; and three great
grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday,
at the Ira Kaufman Chapel
here, with burial in Clover Hill
Park Cemetery.

a monument in memory of Mrs.
Pearl Rottenberg, one of the
leading figures in Jewish youth
and educational activities prior
to her death last year.
The unveiling will take place
at 2 p.m., Sunday, at Bnai David
Cemetery, 9535 Van Dyke, with
Rabbis S. P. Wohlgelernter and
Joseph Elias officiating.
Simultaneous with the an-
nouncement of the unveiling
came an appeal from Rabbi
Joshua Sperka, secretary of the
Pearl Rottenberg Scholarship
Fund, for contributions to the
fund, which was established
after her death by the family
and the Beth Yehudah Schools.
Several youngsters already
have been provided with schol-
arships from the fund, Rabbi
Sperka said.
Mrs. Rottenberg, who was ac-
tive in numerous communal or-
ganizations, was best known as
president of the Ladies of the
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah, an or-
ganization she served as presi-
dent for over 25 years.

Detroiter who practiced dentis-

Marsh was a member of Adas

Agency, Mr. Zechman, a native
Detroiter, was in business in the
downtown area In a single lo-
cation for 27 years. He was
well known in many Jewish
circles here. His parents were
among Detroit's most active
leaders in many philanthropic
endeavors.
Surviving him are his wife,
Dorothy; daughters, Mesdames
Marvin Weinstein, Arthur
Koppy, Jack Schechter and Jos-
eph Greenberg; 10 grandchil-
dren; a brother, Manuel, and
two sisters, Mrs. Charles Rubi-
ner and Mrs. Beulah Lewis.
