February of Mrs. Pearl Rotten-
berg who had served in that
capacity for 25 years, was filled

The Levin family connection
with the Beth Yehudah is ex-
tremely close, the president's
husband being a nephew of Rab-
bi Yehudah Levin, after whom
the institution is named. He
also is a board member of the
Yeshivah and a vice-president
of Cong. Shomrey Emunah.
Mrs. Levin. well-known for
her work in the community, is
a former president of the Beth
Yehudah PTA and the Sister-
hood of Young Israel and is cur-
rently president of the Wo-
men's Sabbath League. She also
is chairman of the Detroit
Mothers Committee for Batei
Avot orphanage in Bnei Brak,
Israel.
Mrs. Levin's two children,
Diana, now a student at Stern
College for Women, and Wil-
liam, an honor student at Yesh-
ivah University, are both grad-
uates of the Beth Yehudah
Schools.

Recital Next Wednesday

Don Frohman, noted concert,
opera baritone and vocal coach,
presents Irene Pianin, soprano,
and Alex Joffe, baritone, in a
vocal recital next Wednesday,
8:30 p.m., at the Baldwin Re-
cital Hall, Woodward at Ferry.
Admission is free. At the piano
will be Rebecca and Don Froh-
man.

Rabbi MILTON ARM, for-
merly of Detroit, was installed
as spiritual leader of Cong.
Beth Israel, Milwaukee, Wis.,
at a special ceremony recently.

Pasteur Student Wins ndustrial Arts Prize

A 13-year-old eighth grade
student at Pasteur School was
one of the winners of the 1958
Industrial Arts Award, spon-
sored by the Ford Motor Co.
He is William Barit, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Julian Barit, of
4011 Norfolk, whose entry was
an electrically operated relief
map of Brazil, which he made
last year at Pasteur School.

during her Detroit visit with the Women's Division of the
Detroit Israel Bond Organization and told of the importance
of lending economic support to Israel through the purchase of

Dr. Bergen Evans Slated
as Town Hall Speaker

Dr. Bergen Evans, professor
of English at Northwestern
University, radio and TV star,
will speak at Detroit Town
Hall, in Ford Auditorium,
Wednesday, 11 a.m., on the sub-
ject "On Being Funny."

William's project was one of
4,500 final entries which came
from all parts of the United
States, Alaska, Hawaii and
Puerto Rico.
Only the second time in the
school's history that one of its
students has gained this rec-
ognition, certificates to mark
the occasion were given to Wil-
liam, his teacher Sidney Pearl,
the principal and the school.

Iry Field in Europe
on Government Tour

Irving Feldman, Detroit mu-
sician who is known profes-
sionally as Iry Field, has been
selected from thousands of ap-
plicants throughout the coun-
try to make a tour of European
countries on behalf of the U.S.
Government.
The popular band leader is
presently in Germany, on the
first leg of a
year-long stay,
during which
he will enter-
tain and in-
struct military
personnel and
their families.
A graduate
of Wayne State
U n i versity,
with a mas-
ter's degree
Field
in music, Field is a teacher in
the public schools. At the time
he left the city, he was teaching
at the Troy High School, in
Birmingham.
He is a native Detroiter, and
is the son of Mrs. Arthur Feld-
man, of 20430 Cheyenne, and
the late Mr. Feldman. During
his absence, his orchestra will
continue to accept engagements.

Sam Levenson to Star
in Nov. 18 Show
of Bnai Brith Women

Radio and television comedy
star Sam Levenson will be the
headliner at a show sponsored
by Bnai Brith Women and set
for 8:30 p.m., Nov. 18, at the
Fox Theater. The event will
mark the three-quarter way
mark in the fund-raising season
of Detroit Bnai Brith Women,
said Mrs. Fred Rapoport, fund-
raising program chairman.
Council president Mrs. David
Grosberg notes that the cam-
paign goal of $100,000 has al-
most been reached.
Mesdames Allen Weiss and
Albert Cutler, ticket chairmen,
advise that the demand for tick-
ets is great and all seats will be
sold on a first-come-first-serve
basis.
An added attraction at the
show will be the appearance of
the singing Berry Sisters. Tick-
ets are available by calling Mes-
dames Cutler, UN 2-8379, or
Weiss, LI 8-4694.
Mrs. Phillip Edelheit, overall
chairman, announces that the
Bnai Brith ad book "Benevolent
Blaze" will have an Israel-theme
cover by Irving Chadwick. Edi-
tor of the book is Mrs. Al Stein,
with Miss Harriet Levine and
Mrs. Ben Dorf as associate edi-
