Center Advances Date
of Symphony Concert

The next concert of the Cen-
ter Symphony Orchestra, origi-
nally scheduled for Tuesday.
Nov. 18, will be held instead on
Monday evening, Nov. 17, at the
Davison Jewish Center.
The orchestra, under the di-
rection of Julius Chajes, will
feature as soloists Artur Bal-
sam, pianist, and Harvey Seigel,
violinist.

Miss Meckler in State for Two Piano Concerts

Ruth Meckler, young Detroit
pianist who is presently a stud-
ent of Rudolf Serkin at the
Institute of Music in Philadel-
phia, will be here during the
coming week to give two con-
certs.
At the invitation of the Mich-
igan Federation of Music Clubs,

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Messer returned from Chicago where
he attended the 1958 National Shoe Fair.
Mrs. Dorothy E. Shapiro, of Kansas City, Mo., is currently
in Detroit to visit with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and
Mrs. Robert M. Pankin, of Whitmore Rd., on the occasion of
the birth of her new grandson, Sanford James Pankin.
Dr. and Mrs. Stuart W. Hamburger and their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Isadore Hamburger, have returned from Chicago,
where Dr. Hamburger was awarded a Fellowship in the Ameri-
can College of Surgeons.
Dr. and Mrs. Julian Stern were recently in Milwaukee, Wis.,
where Dr. Stern read a paper before a local medical group. On
the return trip Dr. Stern was awarded a Fellowship in the
American College of Surgeons at its meeting in Chicago.
Mr. Jack Cooper, 10600 Albany, has returned from New York
where he participated in a two-week training course in advanced
life insurance underwriting techniques and practices.
Dr. Leon Fram has returned from St. Louis, Mo., where he
delivered the principal address of the building fund campaign
dinner of that city's Temple Israel, which was held at Westwood
Country Club. On the way, he stopped at Evansville, Ind., where
he was the guest of Mr. Norman Shane, a member of the execu-
tive board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, who
was one of his traveling companions in Israel last spring.
Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Goodman and children, of Tracey Ave.,
have left for a month's stay in Florida.
A tea honoring Miss Mary Mills, a senior nurse in the U.S.
Public Health Service, was given Tuesday at the Shapero School
of Nursing.
