Hebrew School Seminar

to Emphasize Israel's

Tenth Year as a State

The annual seminar of the
teaching staff of the United He-
brew Schools will be held Mon-
day to Thursday. This being the
10th anniversary year of the
state of Israel, the main theme
for discussion will be "The
Teaching of Israel in the Class-
room."
Dr. Mordechai Levy, cultural
attache of the Israel govern-
ment in the United States, will
be the guest lecturer. He will
discuss the g e o g r a p h y and
topography of Israel, its govern-
ment, social structure, educa-
tional system and cultural insti-
tutions.
Dr. Levy will deliver four il-
lustrated lectures on the sub-
ject, given on Monday and Tues-
day. The morning sessions will
begin at 10:15 a.m. and the
afternoon sessions at-1:15 p.m.
The teaching staffs of all Jew-
ish schools are invited to at-
tend.

NW Young Israel
to Install Harry Blitz

The boys and girls who are
to be the first students at the
Hillel Day School of Detroit,
together with t h e i r parents,
will meet teachers, see class-
rooms and attend a party-lunch
at the Hayim Greenberg Cen-
ter, 19161 Schaefer, at 12:30
p.m., Monday.
A reception to be held at
the center the same evening,
at 8:30 p.m. will introduce the
teaching staff to parents and
sponsors. An election of offi-
cers and board of the {Erre.
Day School for the coming year
will be held.
Parents and sponsors will
have an opportunity to meet
their children's teachers and
to view the school facilities.
The teaching s t a f f will be
headed by Mrs. Naomi Floch,
who has long been associated
with the Detroit public school
system, and will include ex-

pertly qualified teachers of
Hebraic-religious studies.
Classes of the Hillel Day
School will be held daily, Mon-
day through Friday, 9 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. Luncheons will be
served, planned and prepared
by an experienced dietician of
children's menus.

tee, composed of Dean Victor

The poems, all written in the
20th century, are based on
many themes, ranging from the
Bible to contemporary life.
Among the poets represented
are David Einhorn, J. Glatstein,
Chaim Grade, M. L. Halpern,
lVfoyshe Kulbak, Zisha Landau,
Mani Leib, Itzik Manger, Kadie
Molodowsky and Abraham Sut-
skever, with the introduction
written by Dr. Betsky.

After holding services for the
past two years in the Hayim
Greenberg Center, under the
leadership of Rabbi Sholem
Flam, the officers and board of
Cong. Shomrey Emanuah have
begun planning the construction
of their own synagogue.
At a recent congregational
meeting, Nathan A. Borinstein,
reporting on the progress of the
synagogue during its two years
of existence, said that a lot on
the corner of Schaefer and Cla-
rita is now completely paid for.
He added that with city ap-
proval having been granted for
the building of a synagogue, the
synagogue had embarked on a
building campaign. The follow-
ing officers were elected:
David Schoichit, chairman;
Meyer. Freedman and Isadore
Levin, co-chairmen; Nathan A.
Borinstein, treasurer; Irving
Weiss, secretary; Norman Horo-
witz, financial secretary; and
Jacob Bacow, C. Servetter and
A. Ungar.

annual installation of officers
