When Lt. Gov. Philip A. Hart
receives the 11th annual Amity
Award of the Detroit Women's
Division, American Jewish Con-
gress, on Feb. 26, a special
citation also will be given to
Paul Paray, conductor of the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

The Amity
Award, pre-
sented to an

to further democratic princi-
ples, was given to Lt. Gov. Hart
for his "devotion to the exten-
sion of civil liberties, his work
to liberalize the immigration
laws and his support of a U.S.
foreign policy which would
recognize Israel as a vital dem
ocratic ally."
The citation to Paray, who
was a member of the French
underground during World War
II, will be for the helpful hand
he has extended to the Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra.
Judges included the Rt. Rev.
Richard S. Emrich, Bishop of
the Episcopal Archdiocese of
Michigan, chairman; Mrs. Sam-
uel Aaron, Judge Victor J.
Baum, Judge Wade McCree
and Frank Rosenbaum. Ad-
visers to the committee were
Boris Joffe, of the Jewish Corn-
munity Council, and Judith
Laikin, AJC regional director.
Mrs. Bert Ruby is overall
chairman of the Amity Award
luncheon, and is assisted by
Mesdames Alan Brown, Harry
Feulner, Sol Redstone, Harry
Shapiro and David Singer. Mrs.
S. M. Israel is chairman of the
AJC commission on community
interrelations which sponsors
the award.
