Center Announces
Month's Activities
of Branch Clubs
To Wed in July
The Jewish Community Cen-
ter has announced the follow-
ing activities being undertaken
by the Center's various clubs:
At the Davison branch the
Young Adults will meet for a
bowling night at 8:30 p.m.
Feb. 16 and for a surprise
movie night at 8 p.m. Feb.
25. The Junior clubs are
planning a series of six-week
projects, and a m-o n g the
themes being considered are
"Brotherhood of Man," "Pass-
over — Festival of Freedom,"
and "Israel—the Tenth Anni-
versary." The Cub Scout den
mothers have planned a joint
sabbath service with other cub
and explorer scout groups
from the neighborhood. The
service this Saturday will be
attended by the scouts in uni-
form. The program committee
is also planning a father-son
banquet.
The Simons branch chess
club has joined with the Ten
Mile branch in sponsoring a
simultaneous chess exhibition
by Samuel Reshevsky, inter-
national chess grandmaster at
the Simons branch on March
2. Reshevsky will play 30
games simultaneously and ad-
vance registration is needed by
those wishing to participate.

Young Adults of the Ten
Mile branch are planning a
"Heart's Desire" dance for 9
p.m. Sunday. Ben Katzman and
his orchestra will provide the
music. Transportation to the
dance will be furnished. For

Registration for a special
group conducted at this branch

and graciousness for the Junior

The Center's book review
seminar meets at 1 p.m. on
alternate Thursdays at the Es-
ther Berman branch of UHS,
18977 Schaefer, to present a
resourceful person who will pro-
vide background information
on the book being reviewed.
Planned for this Thursday is
a review of "Triumph Over
Odds," by Donald Adams, pre-
sented by Mrs. Robert Alpern.
On Feb. 27, a review of "One
Hundred Hours to Suez," by
Robert Henriques, will be pre-
sented by Mrs. Bryce Alpern.

Center Teams Vie for
Basketball Titles
As the basketball season
draws to a close, the many par-
ticipants in the Jewish Com-
munity Center's various basket-
ball leagues are putting extra
efforts into their playing. They
are vieing Tor league champion-
ships.
In' the inter-congregational
league Beth Abraham leads the
northern division with an 11-1
record. In the southern divi-
sion Shaarey Zedek, Bnai Moshe
and Beth El are in a tight race
for first place.
In the Center's class A league
the Vulcans have just taken the
lead from the Lancers who had
been sitting on top for almost
two months. The class B has
seven contenders for champion
out of eight. in the league.
The Junior league teams have
a tie for top position between
the Adriatics (Bantam division)
and the Trysquares (Junior di-
vision). Both have an 8-1 rec --
ord. The Junior league teams
now appear on the courts re-
plete in new colorful team
shirts. The new jerseys and
new basketballs were provided
the teams by the Hannah
Schloss Old Timers. The players
outgrew their old equipment
and uniforms.
February 15, at season's end,
an all-star game will be held
and an awards dinner is being
planned for all participants.
