Charlotte R. Schreier Credits Longevity
Weds Alan Bernson to Mineral Baths



Detroit guests at Searoon Manor, An Scaroan Lake, N. Y.,
this week included Miss Bella Kaufman, of 3385 Richton, and the
Misses Jessica and Fay Schwartz, of 14187 Appoline.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stone, of West Outer Drive, will return
by plane this week from a six-weeks' tour of the West. While
at Denver, Mrs. Stone, who is president of Detroit League, Jewish
National Home for Asthmatic Children, attended the national
convention held Aug. 11 to 14. Mrs. Monte Weston, of Santa
Rosa Drive, also was a delegate from the Detroit League.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Savage and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Sibrack,
of Detroit, were guests in Montreal and Quebec last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon J. Levine and their two children, of
Atlanta, Ga., are here visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Markow, and sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Ben Paull.
A surprise party honoring their 40th wedding anniversary
was given for Mr. and Mrs. Louis Markow by the Pinsker
Progressive Aid Society at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hyman
Lipsitz, of 23650 Radclift, Oak Park.
Dr. and Mrs. Maurice Gantz, of Wisconsin Ave., were enter-
tained recently by their children, Dr. and Mrs. Ramon Jacobs at
a candlelight dinner party attended by about 75 relatives and
friends. The occasion was the eve of the Gantz's departure for
Europe, where Dr. Gantz will attend the 12th. International
Dental Congress in Rome. The couple also will visit England,
France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany. Held in the
Volpe Twins Dance Studio, which was transformed into a Paris-
ian cafe, the party-goers were entertained by the twins and
their staff who presented a night club revue. Dr. and Mrs. Gantz
will return home in October.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Wohl, of 17571 Northiawn, recently
honored their newly-born grandson, Ross Hilton Kemper, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Al Kemper, at a Pidyon Ha-Ben, attended by 120
guests.
Recently in New York for the birth of their new grand-
daughter were Dr. and Mrs. Samuel B. Danto, of Huntington
Woods, and Mrs. Bea Rovetch, of W. Buena Vista Ave. The
baby, Jane Nicole, was born to Dr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Danto
(Shirley Rovetch), former Detroiters, now of Morningside Dr.,
New York. Dr. Danto is a professor of philosophy at Columbia
University. Mr. Ben Rovetch will spend the Rosh Hashanah
holidays with his daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters
In addition to Jane, there also is Elizabeth.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Belkin, of Whitmore Rd., joined Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Belkin, of Cleveland, 0., for a vacation at
Harbor Springs, Mich.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Averbach, of 2741 Tyler, celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary last Sunday at a dinner given at the
home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Israel
Kaner. Also in attendance were their other children, Louis,
Barbara and Frances. Following dinner, friends and relatives
stopped by for a reception in their honor.

Veterans Council Makes 3rd Outing to Fort Custer

Members of the Jewish War
Veterans Auxiliary participat-
ed with other organizations
who comprise the Allied Vet-
erans Council in sponsoring its
third annual hospital party for
patients at Battle Creek Hos-
pital, Fort Custer.
Meeting at the Veterans Me-
morial Building, the party of
22 made the trip by bus. They
served 1,200 patients soft drinks
and ice cream and provided en-

Ex-Detroiter Named
to Post at The Hague

Dr. Alwyn Vernon Free-
man, legal advisor to the
United States Senate Foreign
Relations Committee, has been
appointed director of Inter-
national Lectures and Studies
in the Peace Palace of Justice
in The Hague, Netherlands. He
will remain there until Octo-
ber. Accompanying him to Hol-
land are his wife and daughter.
Dr. Freeman is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Alexander Freeman,
of Detroit.

The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Leon
Schreier, of Monica Ave. The
bridegroom's parents are Mr.
and Mrs. Arch Bernson, of
Point Marion, Pa.

The new Mrs. Bernson chose
a gown of white delustered silk
with bateau neckline and fitted
bodice appliqued with re-em-
broidered Alencon lace. Circlets
of crystals and pearls frosted
the lace. Garlands of the lace
were appliqued on the full skirt
which fell into a chapel train.
Her fingertip veil of illusion
fell from a Juliet cap of match-
ing lace. She carried white
anthuriums and lilies of the
valley on a prayerbook.

Mrs. Rolland Oppenheimer,
the bridegroom's sister from
Morgantown, W. Va., was mat-
ron of honor. Sylvia Oppen-
heimer, the bridegroom's niece,
was junior bridesmaid. Leah
Nelson was maid of honor. Mrs.
Arthur Schreier, the bride's
sister-in-law, Mrs. David
Schwartz, Ada Erdman, the
bride's cousin of Union City,
N. J., Friedelle Schreier, the
bride's cousin, and Beatrice
Fink served as bridesmaids.
Susan Schreier, the bride's
niece, was flower girl.
The bridegroom asked his fu-
ture brother-in-law, Arthur
Schreier, to be his best man.
Howard Cohen, the bride's cou-
sin of Chicago, Ill., was junior
usher. Seating the guests were
Marvin S a p it o, the bride-
groom's cousin of Adrian, Don-
ald Bernson, the bridegroom's
cousin of Pittsburgh, Pa., Har-
vey Simrod, the bridegroom's
cousin of Battle Creek, Mich.,

bridegroom's brother-in-law of
Morgantown, W. Va., and Gil-
bert Sandman. Richard
Schreier, nephew of the bride,
was ring bearer.
The newlywed couple, after
honeymooning in Miami, Fla.,
will live on Woodbine Ave.
