Israeli Capta

ailed as Spy

TEL AVIV (JTA)—Alexa
Yulin, former Israel Army cap-
tain who has been convicted of
acting as a spy for Egypt, was
sentenced to five years' im-
prisonment.
Yulin had come to Israel from
Russia shortly after the War of
Liberation had broken , out in
1948, enlisted in the army, rose
to a captaincy, and fought
against the Egyptians in the
Negev area. In 1955, he left
Israel, after being released from
the army, and went to Switzer-

-land, carrying credentials as a
correspondent for a local news-
paper.
According to the charges, he
had been arrested in Switzer-
land for black market opera-
tions in foreign currency, later
acted as a spy for the Russians
in Vienna, tried to become a
spy for the American intelli-
gence services in Germany but
was turned down-, and finally
contacted the Egyptians in
Paris.
From Paris, the court held,
Yulin had gone to Athens, then
to Cairo where he furnished in-
formation about the Israel army
