Morof-Kayman Rites Sholem Aleichem Institute to Build
Held by Candlelight New School and C enter on Greenfield
•
CARD . OF THANKS
.
After 30 years of educational
and cultural activities, the Sho-
lem Aleichem Institute again- is
planning to expand its facilities,
to provide for its varied activi-
ties.
From a modest school building
on Kenilworth, in 1926, then to
a building on Monterey, and for
the past five years in a new
building on Wyoming, the Sho-
lem Aleichem Institute, for the
fourth time in its history, has
outgrown its facilities and is
planning ,to build a new school
and center on Greenfield Road.
The school and nursery are
bulging with well over 200 chil-
dren. Activities of the chapters,
study groups, choral and drama-
tic groups, and the Women's
Division have made it impera-
tive for immediate expansion,
the Institute announced.
For the past few years the
affiliation of the Sholem Alei-
chem Institute with the United
Hebrew Schools provided Jew-
ish parents in the northwest and
suburban areas with educational
facilities, which include the
study of, Yiddish and Hebrew,
history, the Bible, traditions and
customs, celebration of the holi-
days and Bar Mitzvahs.
It is now planned to erect a
modern building by the summer
of 1957. The ground breaking
ceremony will take place within
six weeks.
Morris Friedman is chairman
of the building committee. Dan-
iel Robb is co-chairman of the
construction committee, com-
mittee, comprised of Leo Megill,
Henry Blank, Herman Kanter,
Irving Levine and Isidor Gold-
stein.
Samuel Jacobson and George
M. Zeltzer are co-chairmen of
the building fund committee,
comprised of Jack Cukerman,
treasurer, Louis Reder, Charles
Driker, Isaac Finkelstein, Al
Letvin, Paul Chover, Sidney
Kaye, and Mesdames Ida Komo-
roff, Minnie Avrin and Julia
Weiss. The membership building
fund campaign is now in full
swing.
