ances. The quartette is led by

weekend. He will chant at
Ahavas Achim for the third
successive year, according to

Adas Shalom Resumes
Late Sabbath Services
Adas Shalom Synagogue will
resume its monthly late sab-
bath eve services at 8:30 p.m.,
today.
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal will
speak on "Louis Dembitz Bran-
deis — American and Jew," a
biographical tribute to the cen-
tenary of the birth of the great
jurist and American Zionist
leader. Cantor Nicholas Fena-
kel, assisted by bike youth
choir, will chant the service.
The social hour to follow will
feature a discussion of the eve,
ring's subject, with special ref-
ference to the current crisis in
the ,Middle East.
The community is invited to
attend.
Hanukah Workshop Set
by Cong. Beth Abraham
A Hanukah workshop is
planned for parents of children
in the Beth Abraham Religious
School, members of the congre-
gation and its affiliate societies
at 10:15 a.m., Nov. 25, in the
synagogue.
Rabbi Israel I. Halpern, Can-
tor Shabtai Ackerman, Dr. Max
Kapustin and Mrs. -Leon Burg
will outline the historical sig-
nificance of the holiday and its
religious observance, m u s i c,
home decorations and recipes.
Morris Davis and his commit-
tee on education have planned
the program.
Thanksgiving
In observance of Jewish Book
Month, Dr. Richard C. Hertz has
invited Dr: Joseph L. Baron, his
teacher, to occupy the pulpit of
Temple Beth El, tonight at 8:30.
Dr. Baron will preach on "The
Book and the Sword."
Rabbi Baron has been affili-
ated with Milwaukee's Congre-
gation Emanuel Bnai Jeshurun
for 30 years. He served as pro-
fessor of philosophy at Milwau-
kee State College and the Uni-
versity of Wisconsin.
He is the author of four bookS,
including "A Treasury of Jew-
ish Quotations," published last
month.
Dr. Hertz will preach on
"Some Thoughts of the Passing
of-the Saintly Rabbi Leo . Baeck,"
at Sabbath morning services.
Biblical TV Color Films
Ralph Cohn of Screen Gems
has announced a series of one-
hour television films in color,
entitled "The Book of Books,"
dealing with Biblical themes.
William Goetz, son-in-law of
Louis B..Mayer, will produce.
Northwest Israel Synagogue
this week became officially af-
filiated with the National Coun-
cil of Young Israel, bringing to
three the number of affiliated
congregations in the Detroit
area.
Located at 17376 Wyoming,
the congregation will be known
in the future as Young Israel
of Northwest Detroit. The other
two are Young Israel "of De-
troit, with a center on Dexter
and another on Linwood, and
Young Israel of Oak-Woods.
Historically, Northwest Israel
grew out of the Young Israel
movement when a number of
members of the. Dexter branch
moved to the Northwest section.
Services were first held in
the Bagley school, and, in 1952,
they moved into the present
building, which has since been
enlarged.
Rabbi Leo Y. Goldman is
spiritual leader of the congrega-
tion, a post he has held since
1953. Under his guidance, North-
west Israel h a -s _ grown t o a
membership of 100 families, has
a Sisterhod and numerous youth
groups. Since its inception, the
synagogue has housed a branch
of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah.
Continuing on as officers of
the congregation are Samuel. S.
Novetsky, president; David Cern
and Rudolph Kar, vice-presi-
dents; Sam Belkin, treasurer;
Norman Sukenic and Gus Lew,
secretaries.
