$1 Surplus Food Program by CARE
Backed by Mizrachi Organization

The Mizrachi Organization of
Detroit this week announced
that initial response to its an-
nouncement on CARE surplus
food packages to Israel has been
"very encouraging."
The $1 surplus packages con-
taining an average of 22 pounds
of basic foods may be sent
through an authorized CARE
representative or through the
Mizrachi organization.
In appealing to organizations
and individuals to back the
CARE non-profit program for
Israel, Mizrachi leaders stated
that "this is an unusual op-
portunity to help our brethren
in Israel by making available
as many food parcels as pos-
_
sible."
The $1 packages may not be
sent to individuals, but will
be distributed by the Welfare
Department of the Israel gov-
ernment according to need and
for general relief.
Checks should be made pay-
able to CARE. For additional
information, call the Mizrachi
Office, TO. 8-3128.

Prof. Levin Evaluates Brandeis
as Zionist, Jurist, and Lawyer at
JNF-Historical Museum Celebration'

Louis Dembitz Brandeis, great
jurist, noted Zionist leader and
evaluator of basic American
principles of democracy and so-
cial justice, was honored Wed-
nesday evening, at the Detroit
Historical Museum, at a tribute
meeting marking • the 100th an-
niversary of his birth.
The Brandeis celebration was
held simultaneously with the
presentation of a Jewish Nation-
al Fund Golden Book certificate
to the Museum.
The address in tribute to
Justice Brandeis' memory was
delivered by Prof. Samuel M.
Levin, of Wayne State Uni-
versity.
The prsentation of the cer-
tificate, received from • Jerusa-
lem, was made by William
Hordes who spoke briefly on his
recent experiences in Israel.
Ben Harold, JNF president,
explained that the Museum was
inscribed in the Golden Book
of JNF in Jerusalem during the
American Jewish Tercentenary.
Henry D. Brown, director
of the Museum, accepting the
certificate, said the Tercen-
tenary represented a real
challenge to the Detroit His-
torical Society. He said it was
"an experiment that worked
very well," and pointed to a
volume of hundreds of mes-
sages from all over the coun-
try commending the Detroit
Museum for its attainments.
George W. Stark, president of
the Detroit Historical Society,
said the Museum is proud to add
the JNF document to the collec-
tion on hand. He invited the
gathering's 'continued ' interest
in the Museum's work.
Opening the meeting, as
vice-president of the Histori-
cal Society, Leonard N. Sim-
ons, in a two-minute speech,
gave an impressive evaluation
