of Sale are learning elementary Hebrew at a Talmud Torah
subsidized by the Joint Distribution Committee, In the school
is a canteen that served nearly 75,000 meals last year to its 300
pupils. These youngsters are among the hundreds of thousandg
of Jews in North Africa on whose behalf JDC will adopt a pro-
gram of aid at its forthcoming 41st Annual Meeting, to be held
December 15, 1955 in New York City. Funds for JDC's programs
in North Africa, as well as in Europe and Israel, 'are provided
by the nationwide campaigns of the United Jewish Appeal.

—Although there has been no
kosher slaughtering in many
years - for the less than 100 Jews
residing in this area, a motion to
prohibit shechita in the • munici-
pal slaughterhouse has been in-
troduced in the City. Council by
Councilman H. Kosche, leader of
the three-man delegation of the
neo-Nazi "German Reich Party."
When his oral motion was
turned down after a confused de-
bate in the. City Council he an-
nounced that he would re-submit
it in Written form. He then con-
vened a public meeting attended
by several .hundred Bamberg
citizens and, in an emotional ha--
randue, appealed for a ban on
shechita.
In a letter to the local Catholic
daily "Bomberger Volksblatt,"
the Christian Social Union chair-
man in the Council, Dr. Jonas
Mehling points out that Kosche
was not concerned with prevent-
ing cruelty to animals, but with
"flaunting the anti-Semitic and
Nazi banner," and with demon-
strating that "we Nazis are still
around."
Dr. Mehling recalls that
Kosche some time ago described
Nazi Grand Admiral Doenitz,
who is in Spandau jail serving
a sentence for war crimes, as
"Germany's legitimate President."
