Elk-hart Lake Resort
Offers Prize to Comics

DETROIT JEWISH NEWS-21
Friday, June 24, 1955

William H. Geftman, owner of
the popular Schwartz Hotel in
Elkhart, Ind., this season is
offering a $500 prize to the best
comedian to appear at the re-
sort.
Stating that Midwestern re-
sorts are finding it difficult to
compete with talent fees paid
on network television, the prize
is offered to stimulate comics
who have traditionally been de-
veloped at summer resorts.
A new comedian will be fea-
tured each weekend at t h e
Schwartz Hotel, in an effort to
uncover latent talent, Geftman
added. Such outstanding show
people as Joni James. Mickey
Sharp, Davey Hall, Lee Tully
and the Waltons have been de-
veloped at the Schwartz Hotel,
he said.
