Elk-hart Lake Resort Offers Prize to Comics DETROIT JEWISH NEWS-21 Friday, June 24, 1955 William H. Geftman, owner of the popular Schwartz Hotel in Elkhart, Ind., this season is offering a $500 prize to the best comedian to appear at the re- sort. Stating that Midwestern re- sorts are finding it difficult to compete with talent fees paid on network television, the prize is offered to stimulate comics who have traditionally been de- veloped at summer resorts. A new comedian will be fea- tured each weekend at t h e Schwartz Hotel, in an effort to uncover latent talent, Geftman added. Such outstanding show people as Joni James. Mickey Sharp, Davey Hall, Lee Tully and the Waltons have been de- veloped at the Schwartz Hotel, he said.
