Advances with J DC Aid
Six years aga the verdict for
3,000 poverty stricken Jews in
Melilla, on the northern coast of
Spanish Morocco was "absolute-
ly no future." .
Today, following aid from the
Joint Distribution Committee, in
the form of a self-help program,
the Melilla community shows
signs of revitalization.
After JDC entered in 1949,
contributing personnel, material
and limited funds, the commu-
nity's population gradually took
over. A help to the needy organ-
ization," Hozer Dalim," provided
a canteen for hot meals, the
Talmud Torah registration
jumped from 210 to 300 young-
sters in a year, a health pro-
gram was started. and monies
were made available to counter-
act the poverty.
