Radomer Plans Banquet
LOS ANGELES, (JTA)—Gerald
L. K. Smith, leader of the
"Christian Nationalist Crusade,"
admitted in his newsletter that
he had found the Madison
Square Garden rally against
censure of Sen. Joseph R. Mc-
Carthy "a magnificent demon-
station of patriotic zeal," marred
only by attempts by "Jewish
newspapermen" to incite a riot
against Smith.
The only Jews visible in the
audience, Smith wrote, were "the
newspapermen" who "actually
attempted to incite a riot against
us.
"Under the protection of the
police we went to a taxicab and
returned to our hotel where
rooms had been registered in-
cognito for us by a friend,"
Smith reported.
"I actually believe if we had
been five minutes later in the
way we handled ourselv,es that
we could easily have been mob-
bed by hysterical Jews in front
of Madison Square Garden.
"Inside we would have been
safe because practically every
person but the newspaper people
who attended the meeting was
on our side, but the buzzards of
the press hoped to create so
much excitement by gathering
around me that it would have
disturbed the progress of the
meeting."
The, New York Post, which had
reported Smith's presence at the
meeting, said that "as a mat-
ter of fact, only one reporter (a
Methodist) and one cameraman
(a Catholic) knew of Smith's
unannounced presence and pre-
cipitate departure."
