THE MICHAEL TAICHS

An extended tour of, Israel is
planned by Mr. and Mrs. Michael
Taich, of Highland Ave., in cele-
bration of their golden wedding
anniversary.
Prior to their departure, a re-
ception is planned by their chil-
dren, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin
Friedman, of Houston, Tex., Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Taisch, of
Bloomington,. Ill., and Mr. and
Mrs. Nathan Taisch, of Detroit.
The Taichs have seven grand-
children.
Married in Russia on Dec. 29,
1904, Mr. and Mrs. Taich came
to this country shortly after-
ward. They have been active in a
number of important community
movements.
Mr. Taich, an active Zionist, is
associate director of the Detroit
Histadrut Compaign. The Taichs
are also active in the Bereznitzer
Aid Society and the Council of
Landsmanshaf ten.

The Teachers Union of New
York published a four-page il-
lustrated newspaper supplement
on the Jewish Tercentenary.
The supplement, believed to be
the first issued by any teachers'
group in the country, is designed
to provide teachers with teach-
ing sources and materials and to
provide parents with some of the
facts about the history of the
Jewish people in this country.
A feature of the supplement is
a series of brief biographies on
"Great Americans We Should
Know," which includes Uriah P.
Levy, August Bondi, Haym Salo-
mon, Sholem Aleichem, George,
Gershwin, Louis D. Brandeis, Al-
bert Einstein, Emma Lazarus,
Benjamin Nones.
Other features include a test,
"What's Your Jewish History
Score," articles • on sport cham-
pions, labor leaders, and a story
of t h e Jewish immigration
trends in American history.
Included in the material is an
extensive list of recommended
books for all levels, a list of
films, film - strips, recordings,
scripts, exhibits and other ma-
terials available from various
sources and organizations.
Copies are available in quanti-
ties up to 100 without charge,
upon request to the Teachers

given for Batei Avot Orphan-
age in Israel, this week express-
ed confidence in communal sup-
port forthcoming for the event,

Fete Orthodox Leader
At Banquet Jan. 18

Rabbi Isaac Mayer Levin,
world leader of Orthodox Jewry,
will arrive in Detroit with a
delegation from Israel to be
guest of honor at a banquet Jan.
18, at Rainbow Terrace.
Under sponsorship of Detroit
religious leaders, the banquet
will feature a plea by Rabbi
Levin for a "traditional Jewish
homeland" in Israel. Reserva-

A founder of the modern state
of Israel, Rabbi Levin was for-
merly Minister of Welfare of the
Jewish state. Member of t h e
Gerer dynasty, he was this sum-
mer chosen as chairman of the
Vaad Hapoel of the world-wide
Agudath Israel movement at the
Knessia Godola, World Congress
of Orthodox Jews, in Jerusalem.

the Greater Detroit Scrap Trade
Association were Daniel Haron,
president; Henry Miller and Ir-
win Robinson, vice-presidents;
