Purim Excitement Fills the Air as Groups
Slate Holiday Plays, Programs, Carnivals

The festive holiday of Purim
continues today and Saturday,
and will be marked with special
sermons in our synagogues, pro-
grains in our religious schools
and other activities by com-
munal organizations.
Of particular interest is the
Jewish Community Council's
sponsorship of a telecast at 10
a.m., Sunday, over WJBK-TV,
Channel 2. Featured on the pro-
gram will be the "Shushan Re-
vue," presented by the same
members of the Ahavas Achim
Youth Group, who last week
gave three performances of the
revue to aid their congregation's
building fund.
Louis LaMed, chairman of the
Council's Culture Commission,
stated that behind-the-scenes
work will be done by Mrs. Jacob
Chinitz, director; Torn Horvitz,
makeup; Mrs. Bella Goldberg,
musical arrangement; Mrs. Sam
Terman and Mrs. Maurice Stein-
berg, costuming.
A party for the cast of the
play will be tendered at 8 p.m.,
Sunday, in the synagogue. Other
events scheduled for the week
follow:
Temple Israel
Observances have been sche-
duled for a 10-day period, be-
ginning with Purim sabbath ser-
vices at 8:30 p.m., today. The
religious school choir, directed
by Mrs. Meyer Jacobson, will
sing holiday songs, and Rabbi
Leon Fram will preach on "An
American Purim." The Bar Ivlitz-
vah of Michael Alan Cutler will
be observed.
The Men's Club will sponsor a
Purim masquerade party Satur-
day evening, at the temple,
while on March 28, religious
school pupils will hold a parade
of costumes and floats. Movies
and games will be featured. Also
on March 28, the High School
Youth will sponsor a Purim car-
nival in the temple.
Ann Arbor Community
Three events, one a Purim
service held Thursday, are plan-
ned, On Saturday night a Purim
masquerade and dance featuring
music by Sam Barnett is plan-
ned. Sunday school pupils will
present a carnival, featuring
games and booths, at 2 p.m.,
Sunday. Mrs. Hal Levinson is in
charge of the carnival arrange-
ments for the school board.
Ahavas Achim School
A masquerade party is plan-
ned at 10 a.m., Sunday, at Ver-
nor School. The congregation's
Sisterhood will be hostesses. Fol-
lowing a parade, prizes will be
awarded to youngsters with the
most original costumes. Play-
lets will be given by each class.,
Northwest Israel Synagogue
and Northwest Yeshivah
A joint program for students
of the synagogue religious school
and pupils of the Northwest
branch of Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah is planned for 2 p.m.,
Sunday, at the synagogue, 17376
Wyoming. Songs, a magic show,
special programs by students
and refreshments will be fea-
tured. The congregation's Sis-
terhood will serve as hostesses,

and shalach monos will be given
each child.
Evergreen Jewish Community
All nembers, friends and new-
comers to the Evergreen area
are urged to join in congrega-
tional activities, which will in-
clude a Purim party for Sunday
school students at 2:30 p.m.,
Sunday, at St. Matthew's Meth-
odist Church, Evergreen and
Cambridge.
Jewish Parents' Institute
"Family Favorites, New and
Old," a cook book prepared by
members, will be on sale a,s
feature of the group's annual
Purimshpiel to be held Saturday
night at the Davison Jewish
Center. Highlight of the pro-
gram will be the presentation of
"Miss Me Mate," a take-off on
the Broadway production, ''Kiss

Young Israel Carnival
Jointly sponsored by the Wo-
men's League and Young Adult
Group of Young Israel, a Purim
carnival, featuring a novel as-
sortment of booths, games and
prizes, will be held at 6 p.m.,
Sunday in the Center, 12521
Dexter.
Lachowitcher Aid Society
A Purim dinner, featuring en-
tertainment, will be held on
Sunday evening, March 28, at
Cong. Shaarey Zion, 13553 Lin-
wood. Abe Betinsky is chairman
of arrangements for the event.
United Jewish Folk Schools
The annual Purim party is
planned for 1 p.m., Sunday in
the Labor Zionist Institute,
13722 Linwood. Besides presen-
tation of "Two Hamantashen"
by Sholem Aleichem, sketches,
songs and reading from the Me-
gillah are planned. Shalach
monos will be distributed by the
school's PTA.
Workmen's Circle
The annual Purim presenta-
tion of the school will be held
at 9 p.m., today in the center,
11529 Linwood. Another holiday
event planned is the Purim ball
Saturday evening, sponsored by
Branch 227, featuring games,
food and dancing, also at the
Center.

In Cornerstone Ceremony
Of Beth Yehudah Schools

Jewish Center
Several Center groups have
slated Purim celebrations. They
include Yiddish Dramatics Cir-
cle, sponsored by Israel Culture
Club, which at 8 p.m., Saturday,
in the Davison Center will hold
a special program including
dancing and refreshments.
30 Plus Club
A party featuring a .carnival-
type atmosphere is slated for
9 p.m., Saturday at the Wood-
; ward Center. Men and women
over 30 are invited to attend.
Center Juniors
Junior clubs at the Woodward
Center will feature booths, a
magic show and puppet play at
its carnival at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Awards will be presented to
those wearing the best costumes.
Dexter Teen-Agers
Dexter teens also will enjoy
its carnival at 3 p.m., Sunday, in
the Davison Center. Besides
festive games, booths and prizes,
a Queen Esther-Mordecai con-
test will be held to select two
teams to reign over the festivi-
ties. The Journey-Men, teen-
age band, will play for dancing.
Young Adult Council
A Purim dance and carnival,
featuring Iry Fields and his or-
chestra, will be offered at 9 p.m.,
Sunday, in the Davison Center.
Booths and a Queen Esther con-
test will be highlighted.
Northwest Council
The Haman Hop, featuring a
night club atmosphere, complete
with the Music of Len Wallace
and his orchestra and a floor
show, will be held at 8:30 p.m.,
Saturday, in the Woodward
Center. Prior to the program, a-
basketball doubleheader, pitting
the Rajahs and Regals against
visiting squads from Toledo and
Flint, will be staged at 7 p.m.

To Present Purim Carnival

The "Seven Wonders" Purim
masquerade ball, - jointly pre-
sented by the Men's Club and
Sisterhood of Adas Shalom Syn-
agogue, will be held 8 p.m., Sun-
day, in the synagogue social
hall. The evening will have a
carnival motif, with booths,
games and prizes. Music will be
provided by the Fenby-Carr or-
chestra.
A special attraction will be
the second act ballroom scene of
Strauss' operetta, "Die Fleder-
maus," performed by a cast of
30 Sisterhood members. Grace
Morganroth and Dan Shapiro
are co-chairmen for the affair.
