The traditional sponge cake of
former years has a new look
these days—and a new place on
the family menu, thanks to the
unique quality and easy-baking
convenience of new Manische-
witz Sponge Cake Mix.
Party cakes, Sabbath cakes,
holiday cakes or the daily treats
that delight the family at des-
sert-time are ready to bake in a
jiffy—and they come out of the
oven with a delectable taste and
quality that only the choicest,
purest home-kitchen ingredients
can produce—the very ingredi-
ents that go into Manischewitz
Sponge Cake Mix. What's more,
there are endless ways of gar-
nishing them, with icings, with
fruits and meringues, that add
to their "special occasion" aual-
ity.
The following recipe for Straw-
berry Pink Sponge, created in
the scientific home kitchens of
the B. Manischewitz Company,
provides a novel and enticing'
way to add a modern touch to
the traditional holiday sponge
cake. Other recipes may be ob-
tained by writing to Manische -
witz, Box 288, Jersey City, N. J.

Manischewitz Sponge Cake Mix, bake
In an ungreased 10" by 4" tube pan.
When cool, split in half to form two
layers. Beat egg whites until stiff, add-
ing sugar gradually. Saving a few
whole berries for garnish, crush the
strawberry preserves until fine, and
sarefUlly fold into egg white meringue.

Spread between layers of cake, and pile
on top and around sides. Garnish top
with whole berries. Transfer cake onto
baking sheet and bake in hot, pre-heat-
ed oven (375-400'F.) for about 5-7 min-
utes, or until peaks of meringue start
