To Wed on Nov. 22 Council Distributes Calendar to Officials

The Jewish Community Coun-
cil has completed distribution
of its 1953-54 school calendar,
which, as in past years, has been
sent to school teachers and ex-
ecutives and to public officials.
The calendar notes the chief
holidays of all religious denom-
inations and dates of legal holi-
days and patriotic observances.
The calendar was designed ori-
ginally to aid teachers when
scheduling examinations, regis
tration, assemblies and other

Sholem Aleichern School
To Open on Sept. 8

An assembly in the school
auditorium to acquaint register-
ed children with the program
and activities of the Sholem
Aleichem Institute will start the
new school term on Sept. 8. The
Institute, located at 18496 Wyo-
ming, will impress on its stu-
dents the importance of Rosh
Hashanah.
The curricula of the school
includes experiences which teach
the significant activities of the
Jewish people, build a desire in
the child for further study, and
integrates students for better
service as American Jews, stated
Irving Panush, director.
Classes taught include Jewish
calendar, customs, traditions,
ceremonies, holiday s, Israel,
American-Jewish life, history,
literature, Yiddish and Hebrew.
Music, art, singing and dramat-
ics are also part of the program.
The pre-school nursery pro-
gram, for youngsters 3 to 5, is
available in morning and after-
noon sessions. From the age of
six the child is eligible for regu-
lar classes. Special classes have
been arranged for beginners,
aged 9 and 10.
Registration is now in process
at the school. Parents interested
in enrolling their children.

Mr. and Mrs Harry A. Slive, of
Chicago, Ill., announce the en-
gagement of their daughter,
Sylvia, to Bernard Goldman,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan

Mr. Goldman is a graduate of
the University of Michigan. Miss
Slive graduated from New
- York University. The couple will
wed Oct. 14, at t h e Belden
Stratford Hotel, in Chicago.

mony Aug. 16 before Judge
George Edwards, Helen Good-
man, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Isadore Goodman, of Freeland
Ave., became the bride Of Len-
nart Daniel Green, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Dan Green, of Styrse,
Sweden.
The bride wore a white, lace,
cocktail dress, on which the lace
fell over a lining of taffeta. The .
gown featured a sweetheart
neckline, cap sleeves and full
pleated skirt. Her headdress,
short veil and accessories were
in white. She wore a wrist cor -
sage of white phaelanopsis.
Mrs. Irving Wolfe Goodman,
the bride's sister-in-law, was
matron of honor, and Charles
Jonathan Snell, the bride's
brother-in-law, was best man
Irving Goodman, her brother,
seated the guests.
Following a family dinner and
a reception at the Hotel Statler,
the couple left for a wedding
trip in the West where they plan
to make their home.

TORONTO, (JTA) — The new
12-story Mount Sinai. Hospital
was officially opened here with
the participation of Premier
Leslie Frost of Ontario, civic
dignitaries and community rep-
resentatives. The new hospital
is equipped with 351 beds for
adults and au 86-bed. maternity
ward; also two kitchens, one to
cater to the needs of Orthodox
patients. The sum of $7,300,000
was spent to build and equip
the hospital.
