A former Detroiter, Mrs. ROSE
BIELAN, who now resides in Los
Angeles, Calif., will have a fea
ture story printed in the Octo-
ber issue of "Light" magazine.
Titled "Old Rocking .Chair Ain't
Got Me," the article tells about
a 90-year-old volunteer worker
at the Braille Institute for the
Blind. Mrs. Bielan, while a De
troiter, wrote stories for The
Jewish News and other publica-
tions under the name Miss Rose
Biehl.

At its recent meeting, SHE-
RUTH LEAGUE formulated
plans for its annual donor
Lu ncheon, to be held Dec. 15, at
Masonic Temple. Hostesses were
Mesdames R. Aaron, Sam Hack
and Abe Kranitz. 'A report was
given on a recent visit to Camp
Tamarack, made available by
the Fresh Air Society.

Ask Community to Open
Homes to Servicemen

Jewish families in Detroit who
'wish to open their homes to
servicemen and women station-
ed in the area during the High
Holy Days are urged to call the
Jewish Welfare Board's armed
services committee, TR. 5-8450,
to register.
There are a number of serv-
icemen located in Detroit and
environs who cannot obtain fur-
loughs for the holiday, a JWB
spokesman said, and the
warmth and generosity of De-
troit home owners is requested
for Jewish youth in service.
Servicemen reading this no-
tice are likewise urged to call
JWB to receive invitations to
homes of Orthodox, Conserva-
tive or Reform Jewish families
during the holiday period.

In a recent ceremony at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, Sylvia Savin,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Savin, of Fullerton Ave., was
married to Reuven Bar-Levav,
of Detroit, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Abraham Tuchman, of Tel Aviv,
Israel. Dr. A. M. Hershman and
Cantor Robert Tulman officiat-
ed.
The bride wore a Spanish-
type gown of white chantilly
lace over tulle and satin, fash-
ioned with a fitted bodice and
bouffant skirt, which ended in
a slight sweep. A veil of French
illusion was attached to her
coronation crown. It was
trimmed with pearls and rhine
stones. She carried a bouquet
of white orchids.
Zena Baum was matron of
honor, and Israel Tuchman,
brother of the bridegroom, was
best man. Bridesmaids were
Doris Kirschmann and Vivi Les-
ser, and ushers included Joseph
Savin, brother of the bride,
Joseph Rosen, of West Peabody,
Mass., Ezri Atzmon, of Tel Aviv,
and Allan Zemmel.
Following a motor trip to
Florida, the Eastern Seaboard
and New York City, the couple
will return to Detroit where
Mr. Bar-Levav will continue stu-
dies in the graduate school of
Wayne University. A student of
public administration, Bar-_
Levav was chief political orien-
tation officer to the youth di-
vision of Haganah and fought
with the Israel Army.
He also worked on the editor-
ial staff of Davar, Tel Aviv
daily, and Ashmoreth, official
organ of Mapai youth. While
attending Columbia University,
he was executive secretary of
Hanoar-Haivri, national Hebrew
youth organization.
Mrs. Bar-Levav was an - in-
structor of English at Wayne
University, and recently 'received
a master's degree in social work
at Wayne. Previously,' she ob-
tained an MA degree in English
at Columbia University,.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Stolsky,
of Tracey Ave., announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Rhoda Lee, to Marvin Bernard
Perlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Perlin of Stoepel Ave. Miss
Stolsky is a junior and her fiance
is a senior in Wayne University's
College of Education.
