the Algiers Hotel in Miami .Beach, Fla.
Mr. Leon Olshansky has returned to the city following a
vacation in Miami Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Eva Wainer ShifrnAn, of Elmhurst Ave., and Mrs. Rachel
Grossberg, also of Elmhurst Ave., left Wednesday aboard HMS
Queen Mary for a trip to Israel. Their children, Mr. and Mrs. Sol
Wainer, of Pinehurst Ave., spent several days with them in. New
York befow their departure. Mrs. Wainer is the former Fannie
Grossberg.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Weinstock, of Sturtevant Ave., will leave for
Israel on Wednesday aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth. Prior to visit-
ing Mr. Weinstock's mother, brothers and sisters, who reside in
Jerusalem, the couple will tour Paris. On their return they will
go by way of Italy.
Mr. Israel Silverman, of Chicago Blvd., has returned from a
month's stay in Israel where he visited his two brothers. He flew
via El Al Airlines. •
Mrs. Charles Cooper, of Richton Ave., left last week by El Al
Airlines for a month's visit in Israel. He will stay with his sister
in Tel Aviv.
.Mr. and Mrs. I. Lenhoff and children, Gail and Alan, formerly
of Washington, D. C., are now in their new home at 18046 Mendota.
Lav-rence Michael Haber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Haber,
of 3274 Webb, was recently honored at a dinner at Holiday Malior
in celebration of his Bar Mitzvah.
_ Rabbi and Mrs. Leo Y. Goldman and children, Joseph Solomon
and Vivian Hadassah, formerly of Richton Ave., are now in their
new home at 18245 Roselawn.
Mr. Samuel Dronzek left this week for a four-month trip to
Europe and Israel. On his itinerary will be stops in France, Bel-
gium; Italy and all major cities in the Jewish state.
Miss Pearl Cohen. and Miss Sonia Jaslove sailed Wednesday
aboard the SS Liberte for% three-month visit in Europe and Israel.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Siegl and family, of Mt. Vernon, N. Y„
were recent guests here of Mrs. Siegl's mother, Mrs. Kolman Sha-
piro, of W. Outer Dr. While here, they also attended the wedding
of their brother, Melvin Shapiro, to Reva Levin on Aug. 2. Mr.
Siegl, formerly with the Detroit - Symphony Orchestra and Radio
Station WJR is now associated with Arturo Toscanini and the New
York City Center Ballet. Before returning to Mt. Vernon, the
Siegls will visit in Los Angeles, Calif. with Mrs. Siegl's sister and
brother-in-law, the Sidney Stockers, who are former Detroiters.
M. and Mrs. Harold Van Baaln and daughter, of Birmingham,
Ala., were in Detroit last week for a visit with Mrs. Van Baaln's
father, Mr. Nathan Fitlow, of Cortland Ave.

The Jewish Vocational Service
has been certified again as an
accredited vocational counseling
agency by the American Person-
nel and Guidance Association, it
was announced by Albert Cohen,
JVS executive director.
The certification was awarded
following an evaluation of the
work of the agency. The certi-
ficate, signed by Prof. Donald E.
Super of Columbia University
who is president of the associa-
tion, stated that the agency
showed "adherence to the stand-
ards of professional competence
and ethical practice" set by the
APGA.
JVS, a member agency of the
Jewish Welfare Federation and
a beneficiary of the Allied Jew -
ish Campaign, renders job place-
ment and vocational counseling
service to Jewish residents of
this area.

JERUSALEM, ( J T A ) — Five
leaders of the Zionist Revision-
ist movement in Romania were
sentenced in Bucharest to vari-
ous terms of imprisonment
ranging from 12 to 18 years,
according to reports reaching
here. They had been under ar-
rest for two years. Among those
arrested are a number of leaders
of the pro-Soviet Hashomer
Hatzair Party.

Reservations in Chicago

Edith Hoffman, newly-elected
president of the Department of
Michigan Ladies Auxiliary of
the Jewish War Veterans, ad-
vises all women planning to at-
tend the national convention ins
Chicago over Labor Day week-
end to make reservations with
her at UN. 4-5322.
In addition to business meet-
ings, Mrs. Hoffman said, there
will be visits to local institutions
including the Crippled Chil-
dren's Hospital, for which many
Auxiliaries have been making
stuffed toys.

MISS ESTHER WEINSTOCK

At a recent reception in San
Diego, Calif., the engagement of
Esther Weinstock and Arnold
Belinsky was announced. The
bride-elect is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Max Weinstock, of
Chula Vista, Calif. Mr. Belinsky
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Irv-
ing Belinsky, of Russell Woods,
Detroit.
Miss Weinstock attended the
University of Southern Califor-
nia, and presently is attending
San Diego State College where
she served as treasurer of the
Hillel Foundation. Her fiance
attended Michigan State College
and the Detroit Institute of
Technology. He is affiliated
with Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.
Mr. Belinsky is currently serv-
ing with the U. S. Navy, and is
stationed at San Diego Naval
Training Center. A. January
wedding is planned in Cali-
fornia.

ZOA Convention Aug. 26 30
The 56th annual convention
of the Zionist Organization of
America will be held Aug. 26
through Aug. 30 at the Waldorf
Astoria Hotel, New York.

Preparations for the High
Holiday season at Cong. Beth
Abraham, 12517 Linwood, will
commence at 8:30 p.m., Satur-
day when the seating commit-
tee begins its assignments of
seats for members and non-
members.
Services will be scheduled in
both the main synagogue 'and
the auxiliary chapel. Rabbis Jo-
seph Thumim and Israel I. Hal-
pern, together with Cantor Eu-
gene Greenfield, will officiate
and preach the holiday sermons.
The committee will be at the
synagogue every weekday eve-
ning and on Sunday afternoons
prior to the holiday services.

Name Samuel Linden
To Mayor's Committee

In response to an invitation
received from Mayor Cobo, Sid-
ney Shevitz, president of the
Jewish Community Council an-
nounced the appointment of
Samuel Linden to serve as a
member of the committee for
neighborhood conservation and
improved housing.
The committee has been ap-
pointed by Mayor Cobo to study
the various aspects of the hous-
ing problem in Detroit. It will
consider such problems as the
possibility of rehabilitating sub-
standard housing and the pres-
ervation or improvement of res-
idential neighborhoods in re-
spect to community services and
physical care.
Linden, secretary-treasurer of
the Lerner-Linden Construction
Co., is chairman of Branch Six, I
Labor Zionist Organization, and
a member of Temple Israel.
