turned from a several weeks'
visit in Israel.
He will report on his experi-
ences before Mizrachi at a meet-
ing at Young Israel Center Mon-
day evening.

In a late afternoon ceremony
on Aug. 2, Elaine Eve Rothman,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. San-
ford A. Rothman, of Ohio Ave.,
was united in marriage to Leon-
ard Sherwin Simon, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Julius Simon of Ro-
chester, N.Y. Rabbi Jacob E. Se-
gal and Cantor Nicholas Fenakel
performed the ceremony at
Adas Shalom Synagogue.
The bride wore a gown of
white mousseline de soie with an
off-the-shoulder, illusion neck-
line. The fitted bodice was equip-
ped with corded alencon lace
and iridescent piates. The bouf-
fant skirt with traditional train
was appliqued with matching
lace. Her lace, Juliet cap was de-
signed with seed pearls, and
held in place her fingertip length
veil of illusion. She carried a
cascading arc of carnations and
stephanotis.
The bride's sister, Ruth Roth-
man, was her maid of honor,
and Mrs. Dorothy Shamashkin,
the bridegroom's sister, was mat-
ron of honor. Bridesmaids were
Mrs. Annette Cohen, of Colum-
bus, 0., Janet Palmer, of Cleve-
land, Paula Goldberg, of Toledo
and Renee Lulkin. Kathye
Rothman, the bride's youngest
sister, was flower girl.
Arthur Simon, the bride-
grooin's brother, was best man.
Ushers included Herbert Rosen-
blatt and Henry Beckler, of Ro-
chester, Eugene Cooper, of St.
Louis, Mo., Morton Sarachan, of
Buffalo, N. Y. and Robert Sha-
mashkin, of Washington, D. C.
Following dinner and a recep-
tion, the couple left for a hon-
eymoon to the West Coast and
the Hawaiian Islands. On their
return, they will reside in Flint,
Mich. Out-of-town guests at-
tending the wedding were from
Massachusetts, New York, Penn-
sylvania, 0 h i o, Missouri and
Washington, D. C.

This Week's Radio and
Television Programs
of Jewish Interest

Emma Schaver, whose soprano
voice has thrilled thousands of
concert-goers in all parts of the
world, will be guest soloist with
the Detroit Symphony Orchestra
this Saturday night, at the State
Fair Grounds shell. Valter Pooie
will conduct the concert, which
begins at 8:15 p.m.
Poole, born in Oklahoma,
played trombone with a name
band to finance music studies
in Paris for four
year s. After-
wards, he joined
the Detroit
Symphony as a
violist, and has
been with the
organization for
20 years. The
;last five years,
Poole has served
as assistant con-
ductor, has led
Poole t h e Symphony
through several summer "Pop"
seasons, conducted the chil-
dren's concerts and Sunday
family concerts.
Mrs. Schaver has just return-
ed from a three month tour of
Israel, where, in addition to
concerts in major cities and
towns, she also sang on radio,
accompanied by the Israel Phil-
harmonic Orchestra.
Included in Mrs. Schaver's se-
lections on Saturday night will
be "Eins, Zwei Drei," a folk song
she learned when she sang in
concentration camps in Ger-
many shortly after the end of
World War II. In addition to
this piece, written by an un-
known composer and arranged
by Hans Stiollick, Mrs. Schaver
will sing "Kinnereth" by Marc
Lavry and an aria from "Aida"
by Verdi.

Bond Women to Honor
14 Societies Aug. 20

Fourteen local women's organ-
izations will receive certificates
of honor from the Detroit Israel
Bond office "in recognition of
distinguished service and in-
spired leadership" during the
1952-53 bond driye, it was an-
nounced by Mrs. Joseph Katch-
ke. Citations will be presented at
the second annual luncheon
meeting of the Women's Division
of the Detroit Committee for Is-
rael Bonds, Aug. 20, at Knoll-
wood Country Club, under the
chairmanship of Mrs. Katchke.
