that he is "an independent"
candidate for the post, and is
not campaigning as a member

treatment in court."

Judge Frank B. Ferguson has
been a Circuit Court Judge for
eight years. Assistant prosecut-

Judge Miles N. Culehan, who
has served as Assistant Wayne
County Prosecutor, Deputy
State Attorney General and
Counsel for the U. S. Senate
property disposal investigating
committee of 194'7, is another
candidate for re-election. He
was appointed in 194'7 to fill a
Circuit Court vacancy, and
has served since that time. He
is a combat veteran of both
World Wars.

A thorough cleaning up of the
docket, which is now 16,000 cases
behind, is advocated by Circuit
Court candidate, Nicholas Salo-
wich, for 30 years a successful
attorney. Salowich also proposes
a Domestic Relations Division of
the court to handle divorce cases
exclusively.
A shortened court docket,
thereby eliminating much time
in court at a tremendous sav-
ing is advocated by John F.
Kane, well-known Detroit at-
torney who is a candidate for
the Circuit Court bench. He is
a veteran of World War. II
in which he served overseas with
the U. S. Navy.
Indorsed as "qualified' by the
Detroit Citizens' League for
Judge of Recorder's Court is
Stanley S. Krause, for 28 years
a Detroit attorney. Krause, a
native of the city who attended
local schools, advocates more
lawyers practicing in Recorder's
Court, and "stands ready to
serve, should night court be
needed."
Joseph C. Murphy, Chief As-
sistant and Assistant United
States Attorney, has the in-
dorsement of the American Fed-
, eration of Labor and was rated
qualified" 1337 the Detroit Citi-
zens' League. A native Detroiter,
Murphy is a veteran of World
War II. He served for four terms
in the State Legislature.
Judges seeking re-election, to
the Recorder's Court bench in-
clude John P. Scallen, 0. Z. Ide
and Frank Schemanske, all of
whom have the indorsement of
many communityites.
Judge' Scallen has 43 years

Court. Born here and educated
in Detroit schools, Judge Scal-
len has a reputation for fair-
ness among all classes of citi-
zens.

Judge Ide is a former Prose-
cuting Attorney, law instructor
at the University of Detroit,
Common Pleas Judge and a vet-
eran of both World Wars. He
is a member of American Legion
and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Joseph E. Maher, a nominbe
for Recorder and Judge of Re-
corder's Court, is a veteran of
World War II, during which he
served in France and Germany.
A practicing attorney for 11
years, he advocated the Missouri
court plan, a controversial ques-
tion in this year's election.
John P. O'Hara, w h o seeks
election as Recorder and Judge
of Recorder's Court, was offered
judgeships twice by two gover-
nors, but refused them. It was
the late Judge John J. Maher
who persuaded O'Hara to enter
his name on the ballot. A We-
troit lawyer since 1914, O'Hara
has served on several City and
County Commissions, is a past
president of the Detroit Bar As-
sociation and a former corpora-
tion counsel. He is indorsed by
many communityites.
Judge Paul E. Krause of Re-
corder's Court is a candidate for
re-election. He was appointed to
the bendh in 1944 and has served
since. A practicing attorney for
210 years before assuming judge-
ship, Judge Krause has taught
for two decades at Wayne Uni-
versity's Law School, and has
served as Detroit's Corporation
Counsel. He is highly indorsed
by the press, labor groups and
the Civic Searchlight.
Charles M. Ziegler is a candi-
date . in Monday's election for
the office of State Highway
Commissioner. He is running on
the Republican ticket.
Judge George T. Murphy is a
candidate for re-election to the
office of Judge of Recorder's
Court, Traffic and Ordinance
