surrender to Nazi Germany,
when thousands of Jewish refu-

first president of the Moroccan
Refugee Aid Committee.
A year later, in 1941, the pro-
Nazi Vichyite powers in Morocco
decreed that aid to refugees was
henceforth a criminal act. The
authorities closed the Refugee
Aid office and demanded that
Benatar . surrender her
records to them. The Vichyites
never got them. Mme. Benatar
had hidden them.

Tells and Leaders Jews Must
Be Taken Out or Eastern Europe
Kubovy
"Dr. Arieh Kubovy, former Is-
tael Ambassador to Poland and
OZechoslovakia, warned -during
•his visit in Detroit this week
that Jews in Eastern European
countries are in danger, as a re-
sult of the resurgent Soviet-in-
spired anti-Semitism, and that
as many of them as possible
be settled in Israel..
Speaking to a gathering at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Schaver, on Outer Drive, Tues-
day evening, Dr. Kubovy said
that fear is one of the major
factors in the wave of suppres-
sion of freedom behind the Iron
Curtain.
He described anti-Semitism
as an instrument by the Com-
munists for the seizure of pow-
er. He described the govern-
ments dominated by the Krem-
lin as regimes of distrust that
must be ruled by single men.
"As long as there is no peace
between East and West, there is
no chance that Russia will
abandon anti - Semitistre" Dr.
Kubovy said. "It's to be used as
Hitler used it—as an instrument
for division and discontent."
He also described as a most
disturbing factor the spread of
the belief in the Protocols of the
Elders of Zion and the belief in
mythical Jewish domination.
Speaking of Israel, he said
that the small state is prepared
to meet the challenge and to
welcome more people in spite of
present economic difficutlies. He
said that great progress has
been made in Israel and he told
of the vast economic advances
of the past two years.
Dr. Kubovy was here to spur
the collection effort for the Is-
rael bond drive and at the same
time to meet with his, friends,
the Schavers, with whom he had
worked in the Jewish Congress
movement, in Israel and in Eu-
rope after the last war in ef-
forts to rescue Jews seeking
escape to Israel.
A sum exceeding $60,000 was
collected as payment for Israel
bonds after Dr. Kubovy's ad-
dress.
At a reception for Mrs. Ku-
bovy the same night at the
home of Mrs. Harry Kay, each
of the 35 women present bought
a bond, for a total of $11,000.
