JINX Blue-White Box Month
Designated from March 15-April 15

The period from March 15 to
April 15 has been declared Jew-
ish National Fund Blue-White
Box Month it was announced
by the Detroit Council of JNF
at its meeting Monday night.
During the 30 day period. which
includes the Passover and Chol
Harnoeci, which is the t ,•aclition-
a' spring JNF Box clearance
time, a concerted effort will
also be made to place the Blue-
White box in every Jewish
home in Detroit.
"We take pride," declared
Wiliam Hordes, president of the
local JNF. "in the fact that not
only Zionist bodies in the city
and the Ladies' Auxiliary. but
also many landmanshaf ten,
Bnai Brith, and women's organ-
izations, have given recognition
to the ideal: and work of the
Jewish National Fund in Israel
thrOugh its program of land ac-
quisition and land redemption."

Hordes' Leave for Israel

Hordes, who, with Mrs. Hordes,
left Wednesday for a six-week
stay in Israel, pointed to the
vitally important work of the
JNF in alleviating the seasonal
unemployment situation in Is-
rael.
"In the past year alone, the
JNF provided 261,000 work days
through afforestation and paid
almost IL500,000 in wages, which
are adjusted to the cost of living
index. For _example, in October
'51, an afforestation worker was
earning IL1.700 per day, while
by September '52, the wage had
risen to IL2.600," Mr. Hordes
said.
The program for JNF Box
Month was outlined by Mrs.
Michael Michlin, chairman of
the Council's box clearance
committee, and David Silver,
vice-president of the Council
and chairman of the special box
placement committee.
Box clearance will be organ-
ized according to the block sys-
tem. The Ladies' Auxiliary, Ha-
dassah, Mizrachi Women, Pio-
neer Women and Northwest
Child Rescue Women will carry
the main load of calling at the
homes of Blue-White boxhold-
ers to clear boxes.

Form Telephone Squad

A large number of organiza-
tions have asked the JNF office
for programs, films and speak-
ers, and have agreed to devote
their meetings during box
month to JNF.
A part of the program for the
placement of boxes will be the
telephone squads who will make
phone calls to as many Jewish
homes as possible, where records
indicate there are no boxes as
yet.
In accordance with plans of
national JNF, an account book
will be given to every new and
old boxholder whose box is
cleared. The purpose of the ac-
count book is to make an entry
of all moneys collected from the
Blue-White Box. When the sum
of $100 is accumulated, the box
holder will be entitled to an in-
scription in the Golden Book.
Members of t h e Council's
Blue-White Box Committee, in
addition to Mrs. Michlin, are:
Mesdames Samuel Krone,
Charles Robinson, Rose White-
man, Samuel Shulman, Leonard
Gross and Harry Seltzer.
The special committee headed
by Mr. Silver, includeS Messrs.
Morris Lachover, Michael Mich-
lin, Zvi Tomkiewicz and Boris
Wise.
