Rally of Histadrut. Drive Workers
Bezalel Sherman, noted Labor
Zionist, writer and publicist, will
address a gathering ot Hista-
drut campaign workers and del-
' egates from af-
filiated organi-
zations on Sun-
day afternoon,
at the Labor
:Zionist Insti-
tute, 13722 Lin-
wood. -
The rally will
serve to mobil-
ize drive cap-
tains and work-
ers to increased
effort in the few
Sherman
remaining weeks of the cam-
paign. The final goal has been
set at $300,000.
At the protest meeting against
Soviet anti-Semitism held last
Sunday under the sponsorship
of the Labor Zionist Movement
and the campaign executive
board, a resolution was drawn
up denouncing policies behind
the Iron Curtain, and calling on
friends of Histadrut to back up
Israel through continued sup-
port to the labor movement in
Israel.
Isaac Hamlin, national cam-
paign leader, was guest speaker
at the rally, which sought to

Father and Son Banquet
Of Workman's Circle
Dr. Alfred H. Kelly, chairman
of the department of history at
Wayne University, will be prin-
cipal speaker at the Workmen's
Circle father and son banquet,
on Sunday, chairman Robert
Israel announced. Dr. Kelly's
subject will be "The Current
State of American Foreign
Policy."
In addition to his university
post Dr. Kelly holds the Dr. Leo
M. Franklin Memorial Chair at
Wayne which was established by
Temple Beth El in honor of its
late rabbi.
Aaron Rosenberg, prominent
Detroit attorney, will be toast-
master. Musical entertainment
will be provided. The banquet
will serve to hcinor members of
the organization who have given
many years of service to the
group and to the community.
Besides chairman Israel, the
committee includes Eugene
Brownstein, Max Burns, Moe
Caplan, Phil Fabian, Leon Cous-
ens, Joseph Felstein, Dr. Robert
Greenley, Albert- Heideman, Dr.
David Levin, Bill Lipson, Frank
Newberg, Ray Raphael, Marcus
Sonne and Dr. Irving Warren.
The dinner will begin at 6:30
p.m. at the Circle Center, 11529
Linwood.

In announcing plans for the
successful conclusion of the
drive, Morris Lieberman, chair-
man, stated than an executive
board decision was made to fore-
go the customary closing meet-
ing. In its place, he said, a new
custom will be inaugurated—a
third seder affair.
Plans for the seder have al-
ready been started. It will be
held on April 1, at Arias Shalom
Synagogue, and will mark the
official closing of the 1953 His-
tadrut drive in Detroit.
The entire Histadrut family
will attend the seder, which will
feature customary ceremonials
and a special program, to be
headed by Mrs. Emma Schaver,
concert artist, who will present
a selection of Israeli and Yid-
dish folk tunes.
Rabbi Morris Adler will be the
main speaker, and the Halevy
Chorus will also perform. Hista-
drut officials urged all campaign
workers and contributors to re-
serve the April 1 date.

Sukenik Is Memorialized
For Archeological Work

brew University archeologist
who died in Jerusalem last week,
at the age of 64, was one of the
world's most highly esteemed
men in his field. As director of
the university's Museum of Jew-
ish Antiquities, he supervised
evacuations which made notable
contributions to the world's
store of knowledge of ancient

times. His most
recent achieve-
ment, for which
he was honor-
ed by the Vati-
can- and by the-
ologians % of
every creed, was
calling the at-
tention of the
scholarly world
to a collection
of ancient He-

which had been found in• a Ju-
dean cave and which are widely
believed to be the oldest such
manuscripts extant. He display-
ed one of „these scrolls during a
recent visit to the United States,
showing how he made use of
infra-red photographic and oth-
er scientific equipment to fa-
cilitate deciphering the scrolls.
Dr. Sukenik was a cousin of
