In 1952, Bernard said, the Na-
tional Foundation had:
1.•Supplied more. iron lungs and other
lifesaving equipment than in the previous
three years combined.
2. Met the costs of transportation,
alaries and maintenance for hundreds of
ecruited polio nurses.
3. Spent S28,000,000 for patient care, a
igure over $5,000,000 more than was
ver expended for this purpose in any

4. Allocated vast sums to scientific

5. Awarded more than 200 scholarships
