Organize Jewish Center to Serve
Community Needs of Down River Area
The Down River Jewish Com-
munity Center was recently es-
tablished by 58 families and in-
dividuals to serve the Jewish
needs of residents of the Wyan-
dotte, Lincoln Park, Allen Park,
Ecorse, River Rouge, Trenton,
Grosse Isle, Taylor Township,
Inkster, Dearborn and adjacent
communities.
Although not a congregation,
the group hopes in the near fu-
ture to form the nucleus of a
synagogue in that area.
Dr. Moses Cenker, of Wyan-
dotte, has been appointed tem-
porary chairman. He will be
assisted by these temporary of-
ficers: Mrs. Selwyn Blumberg,
Wyandotte, secretary; and Mrs.
Robert Shane, Wyandotte, treas-
urer.
Plans are currently underway
for a Hanukah party on Dec. 14,
and for the formation of a
Sunday school for .children of
members, to begin after the first
of the year.
The Hanukah party will be
held at 3:30 p.m., Dec. 14, at
the group's meeting place, the
Oddfellows Temple, 234 Elm,
Wyandotte.
Members have already heard
from Rabbi Leon Fram on the
formation of the Sunday School,
and will meet with representa-
