Detroit is one of 800 cities and
communities which has set aside
\this special day to help speed
investment dollars to the state
of Israel. Locally, more than
500 men and women have al-
ready enrolled as Volunteers for
"BIG Day," on Dec. 14. The es-
timated goal is a working force
of 2,500. -
To provide sales ammuni-

tion and information to the
group, training meetings are
scheduled for every afternoon
and evening, beginning Dec.
7, at the Zionist House, Law-
rence at Linwood. At the end
of this training period, all vol-
unteers will gather for a BIG
breakfast meeting, Sunday,
Dec. 14, 9 a.m., at Latin Quar-
ter. A direct telephone hook-
up from New York City will
bring special addresses by
leaders of the Israel Govern-
ment, as well as outstanding
American personalities of na-
tional prominence,

To add incentive to the "BIG
Day" drive, prizes will be made
available to all qualified volun-
teers.
Top prize will be an expense-
free week-end trip to Washing-
ton, D.C., including hotel ac-
commodations, and visits with
the Israel Embassy there.
In order to qualify for prizes,
a worker must sell a minimum
of 10 bonds, amounting to a
total valuation of at least $1,-
000.
Plea by L. A. Daily News
A leading newspaper urged its
readers to support the new State
of Israel by subscribing to the
$500,000,000 Israel bond issue.
Titled "Israel Bonds Are ,Good
Investments," the Los Angeles
Daily News editorial stated that
"while Arab areas are important
to us for their oil, Israel is worth
even more to us in a moral and
cultural way for it gives western
democracy a beachhead where
it needs it."
"It is, therefore," the editorial
says, "the responsibility of wes-
tern nations, and chiefly Amer-
ica, to make certain that Israel
grows and prospers. One of the
best ways to do this is to buy
Bonds of the State of Israel.

"It is not a matter of charity.
Israel is not asking charity. It
is asking what nearly every gov-
ernment asks at one time or an-
other, and that is to bOrrow
money at prevailing rates of in-
terest. The Bonds are a good
investment in two ways. They
pay good interest and return of
the principal is assured. More-
over, they are an investment in
democracy of great excellence."
