Conservative Synagogues to Offer

The opening session of the in-
stitute will be on Nov. 11, at
Cong. Adas Shalom. It will con-
tinue for 18 consecutive Tues-
days at the synagogue. In addi-
tion to the regular instructors,
four guest lecturers from the
Jewish Theological Seminary
have been invited.

Nets Nearly $175,000
Close to $175,000 in State of
Israel bonds were sold at High
Holiday appeals in over a score
of synagogues in the city on
Yom Kippur and Sukkot, it was
announced by the Detroit Israel
bond committee.
Zvi Tomkiewicz, executive di-
rector of Mizrachi, has inform-

bers of all synagogue commit-
tees will be present in the syna-
gogues between 11 and 2 and 7
and 9 p.m., Sunday to receive
bond monies, which will be
turned in by those who made
holiday commitments.
All congregants are urged to
bring in funds on Sunday to
enable the State of Israel to
have this money available for
its urgent needs.

chairman; Max Biber, Mitchell
Feldman, vice-chairmen; Mrs.
Albert Kaplan, treasurer; and
Alex Kraft, secretary.
A fee of $3 will be charged
for the entire Institute. Regis-
tration can be made now at any
of the five participating syna-
gogues, or at Adas Shalom on
Nov. 11, the opening session. For

on Oct. 29, a religious night pro-
gram, Nov. 7, and a banquet at
the Latin Quarter on Nov. 16.

Rabbi Sanford E. Saperstein, of
Temple Beth Jacob, Pontiac, will
teach "Basic Judaism: A Design
for Living" and "The History of
the Great Religions"; Rabbi Al-
fred L. Friedman, of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, Lansing, will
teach "The Prophets and Their
Message to our Times" and
"Great Jewish Books Through
the Ages"; Rabbi Minard Klein,
assistant rabbi of Temple Beth
El, will teach "The Lifetime of
a Jew" and "Beginner's He-
brew"; Dr. Norman Drachler,
Educational D i r e c t or of the
Temple, will offer a course in
"Modern Jewish History"; and
Dr. Louis L. Friedland, associate
professor of government at
Wayne University, will teach
"Jewish Community Life in the
United States."
The courses at Beth El College
of Jewish Studies are free and
are open to the general com-
munity. Irving I. Katz, executive
secretary of the Temple, is regis-
