New Israeli Stamps for the New Year
Are from Solomon's 'Song of Songs'
An American Jewish Press Feature
A new set of four stamps has
been printed for the New Year,
beautifully reproduced in rich
colors from verses of King Sol-
onion's Song of Songs. The four
stamps vary in denomination
from 15 to 220 prutas.
The Song of Songs pictures the

Israel. In addition to the Song
of Songs, two other books of
Solomon's—Proverbs and Eccle-
siastes—form part of the third
section of the Bible ealied "The
Writings."
Solomon, whose name means
peace, inherited the throne from
King David, his father, and pro-
ceeded to build the Temple in
Jerusalem. On Sukkot, nearly
33000 years ago, the Temple was
dedicated on Mt. Moriah, and
We Holy Ark with Moses' Tablets
et Law was placed in its perma-
nent sanctuary.
The 15 pr, stamp, in green

bikicription
comes from 11:13—
"The fig tree putteth forth her
Sys" . . . On the violet, blue and

For Funds If UJA Fills Bill
NEW YORK, (JTA) — The ex-
ecutive committee of the Zion-

sued a denial here of statements
that Revisionist institutions in
Israel did not receive funds from
the United Jewish Appeal be-
cause they had refused to ab-
stain from independent fund-

The statement said that the
Revisionists "h a v e announced
categorically that they accept
the stipulation requiring them
to abstain from independent
fund raising ventures in America
if the UJA agrees to grant them
an allocat ion commensurate
with the needs and scope of
their pioneering institutions in
Israel as was clone in 1950-51."
