Israel Bond Issue in Canada

TORONTO, (JTA)—An Israel
bond issue will be launched in
Canada late this fall, it was an-
nounced by Edward Gelber,
chairman of the United Zionist
Council. The announcement was
made at a meeting of 3,000 per-
sons at Massey Hall welcoming
Israel Foreign Minister Moshe
Sharett.

GREETINGS
ON THE
NEW YEAR

Expressing alarm that the DP immigration program was corn-
ing to an end while millions of refugees remained homeless and
unsettled overseas, members of the Advisory Committee to the
U. S. Displaced Persons Commission met with President. Truman
to urge immediate action on U. S. immigration restrictions. Headed
by Arthur Greenleigh, executive director of United Service for New
Americans, chairman of the Committee, leaders of Protestant,
Catholic and Lutheran agencies gave a joint statement to the
President declaring that the curtailment of immigration to the
United States was having a serious effect on the immigration
policies of other nations and was harming America's foreign rela-
tions. The committee spent a half-hour conferring with the
President and pledged their continued joint efforts to find a solu-
tion to the problem. Shown here (left to right) are: Roland ;
Elliott, Church World Service; Rev. Aloysius J. Wycislo, 1
National Catholic Welfare Conference; President Truman;
Arthur Greenleigh, and Dr. Clarence E. Krumbholz, National
Lutheran Council.
