Menachem Begin, former commander of the underground
Israel army, Irgun Zvai Letnni, is shown addressing 15,000 persons
outside of Tel Aviv's Gan-Rena Cinema, shortly after he emerged
from the underground. At his side is a former Irgun officer, Com-
mander Avraam. Behind him is a portrait of the late Vladimir
Jabotinsky, spiritual father of the Irgun and Revisionist leader.

In a statement made on the

release of his new book, "The
Revolt, Story of the Irgun," this
week by Henry Schuman, Inc.,
Menachem Begin says, "I have
written this book primarily for
my own people, lest the Jew for-
get this simple truth : that there
are things more precious than
life, and • more horrible than
death.'
"But I have written this book
also for Gentiles, lest they be
unwilling to realize, or all too
ready to overlook, the fact that
out of blood, fire, tears and
ashes a new specimen of human
being was born, a specimen com-
pletely unknown to the world
for over 1800 years, 'the fighting
Jew'."
Begin explains that British
'readers "will read in my book
some harsh words about their
rulers," but he continues to say
that the hate which led to the
revolt against the British was
inspired by their rule in Pales-
tine, and is not a hate of the
British people.
The author explains he has
written the book "for the sake
of truth." He continues, "And
the truth compels him (the au-
thor) to ask himself in the pres-
ence of his readers, Gentile and
hostile readers, this testing
question: 'If ever again your
people should find themselves in
a, position like that in which
they were when you had to go
