Conservative Groups Plan Spearhead
To Revitalize Sabbath Observance
A large-scale, concerted drive
for a revitalization of sabbath
observance iri Conservatice con-
gregations will be undertaken
by all constituent groups of the
Conservative movement during
the coming year.
The national sabbath observ-
ance effort will be spearheaded
by the United Synagogues of
America, over - all organization
of Conservative congregations in
the United States and in Can-
ada. Maxwell Abbell of Chicago
is president and Dr. Simon
Greenberg is executive director
of the organization.
Joining in the drive will be the
Rabbinical Assembly of Ameri-
ca, the National Women's
League, the National Federa-
tion of Jewish Men's Clubs, the
Young People's League, t h e
United Synagogue Youth (Teen
Age Groups), the Cantors As-
sembly, the Educators Assembly,
and the National Association of
Synagogue Administrators.
"The Sabbath—Key to Jewish
Living, Key to Inner Strength"
is the slogan for the national
observance e f f or t, aiming at
both a sustained stimulation of
interest in Sabbath observance
and the practical training of
Men, women and children for
participation in Sabbath cere-
monies in the home and at pub- -
lic worship. MOdern techniques
of advertising and public rela-
tions will be brought into play
to gain acceptance of Sabbath
observance among the rank and
file.
The national sabbath observ-
ance effort will formally open
on the Day of Atonement, when
rabbis in Conservative congre-
gations will devote their main
sermon to the theme of making
Sabbath observance a dynamic
reality in personal and congre-
gational life.
As a climax of the year's ef-
fort, the 1952 Biennial conven-
tion of the United Synagogue of
America" in Boston (May 14 to
18) will be devoted in its en-
tirety to the theme of Sabbath
Observance.

Inquiry he was charged with or-
ganization and presenta,tion of
the Jewish case at the hearings
in Washington where he'-deliv-
ered the principal political pres-
entation. He subsequently pre-
sented the blueprint for the Jor-
dan Valley Authority project be-
