Council Pledges Aid
To Detroit Schools;
Hails Education Month
In a statement on Jewish Edu-
cation Month, Dr. Shmarya
Kleinman, president of the Jew-
ish Community Council of De-
troit, declared:
"The Community Council is
dedicated to the idea of a demo-
cratic, creatively Jewish corn-
munal. life in America. That
goal can be realized only if
American Jews are familiar with
and participate in their culture
and tradition. The surest and
most indispensable means for
the raising of standards and the
release of creative energies is
education. Estrangement of the
Jew from the Jewish word, the
Jewish book, the Jewish value
and concept will sound the
death knell of a significant Jew-
ish life. Knowledge is literally
the `som ha-chayim,' the elixir
of life for our community.
`We of the Council stand ready
to help each organization to
plan and implement efforts to
make their members -conscious
of the supreme importance - of
Jewish education. Let us deter-
mine not to cease until every
Jewish child is registered in a
Jewish school."

Good marks and good lighting don't
necessarily go hand in hand, but good
lighting does help make studying easier
. . . and protects sight. Good lighting
means easy seeing — no harmful glare,
dimness and shadows. Be sure the light
is right for your student ... ask an Edison
