year, the Michigan Mutual

will be known as the Fred M.
Butzel Memorial Bldg. . .

plans for moving in had not
as yet been formulated.

AN ACTUAL STORY contain-
ing somewhat of a humorous
twist came about recently-when
a father entered one of the local
Jewish schools to get informa-
tion before enrolling his son ..
The first question he asked was
whether the little boys could
Wear yarmelkes at the school
when they ate . . . He was as-
sured that that was quite al-
right . . . and then the instruc-
tor, anxious not to mislead the
parent, told him that the food
served to the children was not
strictly kosher . • "Oh, that's
alright," said the father, "as
long as he wears a yarmelke it
doesn't matter."

WHEN SAM JACOBS saw Pi-
per Laurie co-starring in the
picture, "The Prince Who Was
A Thief," he felt like standing
in the aisles and shouting that
she was his niece . . . but Sam
had his own way of showing
what a proud uncle he was by
smoking only the finest cigars
obtainable during her recent
visit to Detroit . . . Piper Laurie,
or Rosetta Jacobs, as was her
real name before being changed
by Hollywood, is the daughter
of Sam's brother and sister-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jacobs.

PHIL WELTMAN tells the one
about two fellows who were ar-
guing about civil liberties in
America and Communist Rus-
sia . "America has more free-
dom than Communist Russia,"
said the first one ... "That's not
true," argued the other fellow.
... "Well," came back the first
one, "in the United States a
man can go up to the stairs of
the White House and say that
Harry Truman is a louse and no
one will stop him" ... "So what,"
,replied the second fellow, "he
can go up to the stairs of the
Kremlin and say Harry Truman
is a louse and no one will stop
him either."

THE CHILDREN of Woodhull
Lake raised $122, this summer,
for Child Rescue work of the
Fannie Gluck Chapter, Mizrachi
Women . . The kids had a
talent show each week, happy in
the belief that they were help-
ing others less fortunate ... The
check will be presented to the
Mizrachi Organization, Sept. 17,
when the chapter holds a Linen
and Clothing Shower for their
Children's Village and Farm
School at Raanana, Israel.

EDYTHE SHEVITZ passes on
a conversation she overheard
between a waitress and a cus-
tomer at a downtown eating
place . . • The customer was
complaining that the milk she
had been served was sour and
the waitress was denying it .. .
"Why," said the customer, "back
home when we get regular Jer-
sey milk and it looks like this,
we know it's sour". . . Said the
waitress, with finality, "I don't
care if you're from New Jersey
or New York! In Detroit this
milk isn't sour."

LARRY HERMAN of Lipp-
mans, was the victim of an iron-
ic twist at the recent President's
Day of Tam-O-Shanter Country
Club . . . The prize won by Larry
turned out to be the gift he had
originally donated to the affair!
. . . A double victory was scored
by twins Milton and Art How-
ard . . Milt won a set of golf
clubs ... and Art, as top winner
of the day, was awarded an all-
expense paid trip to Chicago,
including a three-day stay at
the beautiful Edgewater Beach

JULIUS WEINBERG, internal
relations director of the Jewish
Community Council, is always
ready with a story or two . . .
and tells of the two Russians
standing near the Kremlin hav-
ing an argument about the na-
tionality of Adam and Eve • . .
Said one Russian, "Adam and
Eve must have been citizens of
Communist Russia" ... "Why?"
asked his friend . . . and the
other replied, "It's simple. Adam
and Eve didn't have any shoes,
were without clothes, ate noth-
ing but raw vegetables and
thought they were in Paradise,
too."
