Graduation - exercises will be
Marked for two branches of the
United Hebrew School during
the coming week.
On Sunday, at 3 p.m., the Lin-
wood Branch will graduate 10
students at exercises at the
Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg. The
Northwest School will hold com-
mencement at 8:30 p.m., Wed-
nesday, at ,Adas Shalom Syna-
gogue.
Featured at both graduations
will be a playlet, "The Prophet
Finds the Hero," with members
of the graduating classes partici-
pating. Bernard Isaacs, superin-
tendent of the Schools; Albert.
Elazar, associate superintendent;
and Abe Xasle, president, will
briefly address both classes.
Maurice Zackheim and Mau-
rice Landau, co-chairmen of the
board of education will present
diplomas, and graduates will
receive gifts from the Woman's
Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary
of the Kvutzah Ivrith and a
member of the Feigenson fain-•
ily.
On Saturday morning, the
services of the Linwood School
will be conducted entirely by
the members of the graduating
class. Parents and friends are
invited. Mrs. P. Silver, of the
school's PTO, will be in charge
of the kiddush following the
service.
Young Israel Triumphs
With the Eternal Light
At the Linwood graduation
Irwin Shaw will speak for the
Jewish Welfare Federation. Mrs.
P. Silver, PTO president, will
present a gift to the school.
The traditional candle ceremony,
at which a candle representing
the light of the Torah is hand-
ed over from the graduating
class, will be conducted by grad-
uates Alan Silver and Sheldon
Rocklin and recipients Lorraine
Yolles and Fay Mathis.
At Northwest graduation the
ceremony will be performed by
Merwin Goldsmith, representing
the graduates, and Judies Katz-
man and Gerald Starr. Isidore
Sobeloff will speak for the Jew-
ish Welfare Federation.
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal, of Adas
Shalom Synagogue, will deliver
the principal address, and Rabbi
Benjamin Gorrelick, of Beth
Aaron Cong., will give the clos-
ing prayer. • Mrs. Charles Char-
lip, president of Northwest PTO,
will present a gift to the school.
House of Shelter
Aids Hundreds of Jews
Under the leadership of Jerry
Bielfield and his committee, the
Jewish House of Shelter, 1620
Taylor, again performed a serv-
ice to the Jews of Detroit and
its surrounding communities. --
During the recent Passover
holiday, food was prepared for.
and delivered to inmates or pa-
tients at Jackson State Prison,
Wayne County General Hospital,
Ypsilanti Sanitorium, Detroit
HouSe of Correction, Wayne
County Jail and Receiving Hos-
pital.
Several hundred meals were
distributed by the board of di-
rectors, after food was prepared
according to kosher law. Serv-
ices at the House of Shelter
were attended by 35 guests. Dur-
ing the year, hundreds of Jews
are fed and sheltered by the
organization, which is an agen-
cy of the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration.
Young Israel scored a hit with
its production of Franz Werfel's
"The Eternal Road" on June 10,
at the annual banquet. There
were solos by Cantor L. Wald-
man. The dialogue was adapted
by Hillel Abrams and Mrs. Sam-
uel Prero.. The pageant was
under the direction of Felix Rez-
nick. Charles S. Levi. was stage
director. Scenery was construct-
ed by Abraham M. Silverstein
and Dr. Hugo Mandelbaum.

Without Desecrating Shevuoth
MINNEAPOLIS, (JTA) — Spe-
cial arrangements were made by
the Minneapolis Election Board,
in consultation with the Minne-
sota Jewish Council and the
Minnesota Rabbinical Associa-
tion, to enable Jews to partici-
p a t e in Monday's municipal
elections without desecrating
the Shevuoth holiday.
NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
American Federation of Labor
has pledged its full support of
a bill now before Congress for
an American grant-in-aid to Is-
rael of $150,000,000. In a letter
to the American Trade Union
Council for the Histadrut, AFL
president William Green said
that the Federation will "gladly
cooperate with you in every pos-
sible way to secure passage of
the bill."
The Hotel and Restaurant

ternational U n i o n, AFL, has
contributed $100,000 to the Is-
rael Histadrut Campaign for a
special Histadrut housing pro-
ject in Holon, a suburb of Tel
Aviv.
