NEW YORK — A resolution
voicing support of the stand tak-
en by the General Zionist party
in Israel that the forthcoming
elections there of delegates to
the World Zionist Congress be
held "only on the basis of a
proper register of shekel holders
qualified to vote" was adopted
at a meeting of the inner com-
mittee of the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America.
The resolution followed the ac-
tion taken in Israel by the ex-
ecutive committees of the Gen-
eral Zionists and Mizrachi pro-
testing against the rejection by
the Jewish Agency Executive of
their request for the 'postpone-
ment of elections to the Congress
for two months in order to pre-
pare a register of voters. The el-
ections have been set for June
12.
Both parties in Israel have is-
sued statements that they will
bring the matter before the
court of the Zionist Congress.
The General Zionists charged
that the number of shekolim of-
ficially announced as sold by
September 1950 .in many areas
exceed, by far, the total figure
of eligible voters to the -last mu-
nicipal electionS. The charge
cites the case of Tel • Aviv which
shows an excess Of nearly 40,000
shekolim sold over the number
of its eligible voters registered
for its last municipal elections.

LISTENING

LOCAL KOSHER CATERERS
again are making an attempt to
organize • . •. Seems that recent
happenings plus the varying of
prices charged to customers
have • brought on get-together
tactics . . . Most kosher caterers
want organization ... but there
are the few who don't for their
own benefits . This has been a
long drawn out dilly-dallying
back and forth between the ca-
terers . • and the time is ripe
for something to be done .
An association of kosher cater-
ers is needed ... and will defin-
itely benefit everyone concerned,
including the customer . . In
days gone by, strong-arm gor-
illas were used to organize
groups . . . Today, common sense
will achieve the same purpose
among the kosher caterers of
Detroit.

AT THE RECENT Jewish
War Veterans Convention,
Gov. G. Mennen Williams told
of an amusing aftermath to
his Yiddish greeting to Prime
Minister David Ben - Gurion
at the City Hall reception .. .
The Governor had publicly
greeted a beaming Prime Min-
, ister with a "toll zein mit
glick." . . At the conclusion
of his address, he took a seat
alongside Madame Ben-
Gurion . The Prime Minis-
ter's lady leaned over to him
in all earnestness said, "Mr.
Governor, I didn't know you
were Jewish."

COUPLE OF ISSUES back, we
told of plans being made for a
testimonial to one of the town's
grand gents . • . Now that the
invitations are out it can be re-
vealed that the recipient of
well-deserved kudos, June 21,
will be Samuel J. Rhodes, the
daddy and grand-daddy of JWV
in Detroit and the pioneering
first president of the JWV Mem-
orial Home Association . . It
was his vision, conceived many
years ago, and his energy which
were responsible for the erection
of the impressive, vets building
on Davison.

MARTIN LAKER was a very
tired young lad after coming
out of the David Stott Bldg. . . .
His mother, Toby Laker, had
parked the car outside the
building and sent him with a
package to give to Sally Fields.
. . . Martin took the elevator up
and was so frightened by the
fast - climbing transportation
that after delivering the parcel
. . . he walked down the 33
flights of stairs from Sally's
office. . . . Martin is 11 years
old.

CAMPAIGN NOTES ...
Among a proud group of fathers
honored with their sons at the
Father and Son report meeting
of the Allied Jewish Campaign,
none appeared with more pride
than Solomon Alper, 75 year-old
worker and oldest of the fathers
present .. • He is the patriarch
of a family of good campaign-
ers, since his son, Louis, one of
the hardworking chairmen of
the builders section, has three
daughters who carry on the
family tradition . . In the
Junior Division, Harriet, Bernice
and Norine Alper are topnotch Ancient Jewish Sage's
Works Given. University
solicitors.
