whose magnificent work will
undoubtedly go down in the
annals of Bnai Brith history

WHILE SOLICITING for the
Allied Jewish campaign, Mrs.
Joseph Falk approached a
woman for her donation . . .
The lady refused to give on the
grounds that her husband only
made enough money to buy
groceries for the house . . .
"You can certainly save five or
ten cents a week," said Mrs.
Falk. "After all, Mrs. Raskin
(no relation as known), you
gave $5 last year" ... The wo-

looked up in surprise and
cried out, "Raskin! My name
isn't Raskin—it's O'Toole!" .

WHEN WE LEFT Jackson
State Prison last week, the
feeling of freedom hovered over
us . . . It was a feeling of secur-
ity and an even greater realiza-
tion of the wonderfully free
standards by which we are all
privileged to live . . . As the
guest of Rabbi Joshua Sperka,
Jewish chaplain at the prison,
we had attended a dinner for
the Jewish inmates given by the
prison commemorating the end
of Passover , .. A week previous,
Rabbi Sperka had conducted the
annual seder, of which we had
attended the previous year.
AFTER ENTERING the huge
building and signing our names,
a guard was assigned to lead us
through ... We were thoroughly
searched for concealed weapons
.. and then admitted through
the first gate. We were in-
dividually asked to turn around
slowly in an open compartment
equipped With X-ray and elec-
tric eye . . . When told that he
had a bottle on him, Al Farber
reached in his pocket and pulled
out a small bottle containing
medicine to relieve a cold sore
. . . He was instructed to check
it until leaving • < . All the Jew-
ish inmates (there are 45 out of
a total inmate population of
over 6000. Ten are trustees)
were waiting in the hall with
Rabbi Sperka and the guests
that had already arrived ... In
the auditorium everyone was
provided with and wore a yar-
melke and Tallis and given a
Jewish prayer, book . . • Rabbi
Sperka conducted services, as-
sisted by Cantor Hyman Adler
and choir . .. We would like to
add a few plaudits to Nick Ross,
chief steward, who planned the
meal and got the men together
to put it up and serve. . • . He
certainly did a fine job . . . and
deserves a world of credit for
helping make the affair a_suc-
cessful one -- .. . - Among-.:the
guests were. Harry Sosnick,'
Charles Feinberg,' Al and Bill.

Among many . of the ininates ,
from Detroit we noticed an ex=

respect for him:
