MRS. JOSEPH JACOBS, who
handles the books for the Home
Relief Society, had bank offi-
cials puzzled when she tried to
inject a little holiday cheer into
the usually routine chore of
check writing . . . Jacobs, who
signs checks for the organiza-
tion, together with a co-signer,
added at the bottom of Decem-
ber's checks, "A Happy Hanu-
kah." . . . A rather frantic
voice later called from the
bank saying, "Mrs. Jacobs, we
recognize the two authorized
signatures on this month's
checks, but who's this third
lady, Happy Hanooka?"

STEVE PETIX may be the top
tailor in town for men's clothes,
but he never has a chance to
personally own more than a few
suits at a time ... They're sold
practically right off his back to
well-dressed men folks who ad-
mire the newly-styled garments
he regularly adorns . .. Steve's
newest creation (he designs and
supervises all the tailoring in his
Six Mile Rd. shop) is what he
calls "The Napoleon Coat" . . .
and if things go as they have
been, he'll soon have to make
himself a new one . • . or else
be out in the cold.

WHEN LOU HANDLER was
announced from the ring as ref-
eree for the preliminary bouts
preceding last week's contest at
Olympia between Joe Louis and
Freddie Beshore, an avalanche
of boos intermixed with the
sportingly polite reception of
applause . . . We asked the fel-
low sitting next to us why he
was booing Lou . . . and the fan
stopped momentarily to answer,
"He's the referee, aint he? . . .
then proceeded on with his ob-
vious delight . . . Later, we dis-
covered that he had never be-
fore seen or heard of Lou.

. . Mark. Abrams sadly disap-
pointed because his seat didn't
put him within television range
. . . He had promised wife, Elsie,

side . . . Lillyan Gottlieb, seeing
her first fight, nudging hubby,
Meyer. while Beshore's trainers
tried to stop the rapid flow of
blood, and saying, "Why don't
they just put a tourniquet
around his neck?"

committee members of the local
Knights of Pythias installatiOn,
slated for Jan. 23 . . . since the
gals affair will not be held at
Four Dukes Supper Club as
planned . . . The nitery joins
the ranks of local mite spots that
have locked doors and turned
out the lights . . . after invita-
tions had been sent out and
elaborate plans made by the
Pythians.

NEW YEAR'S EVE was just
another night for Col. F. May-
bohm . . . although his Carousel
out Woodward way was jammed
beyond capacity . . . The jovial
colonel played his usual role of
host . . . but in the kitchen
only, where he toiled with his
help to get out the avalanche of
orders coming through . .. and
was indeed a strange sight as
he prepared food ... all dressed
up in a tuxedo!

ever realized any of his boyhood
hopes, barrister Lou Rosenzweig
replied, "I sure have. When my
mother used to comb my hair, I
often wished I didn't have any."
EVER SINCE FIRST- opening
his Washington Blvd. men's
store, Jack Citron has had a
long ambition to grow and
grow . . . Wife, Julie, was
brought up by her parents in
such a way that the word,
"can't" was never to be used
. . . So, Jack and Julie made a
perfect pair . . . and the en-
larging and remodeling of the
popular downtown haberdashery
is a tribute to both their ways
of life.
