Suggests 'Hope'—Beth Tikvah'
As Name of Jewish Hospital

By Julius M. Singer

It is a happy occasion to note
that we shall soon see the erec-
tion of a Jewish Hospital in De-
75troit.
r
A hospital rep-
'resents "hope"
for re-
: —hope
covery, for good
;health.
It is my opin-
ion, therefore,
that a Jewish
hospital should
carry the mes-
sage of hope.
This is a time
J. M. Singer when all of us
live in hope—in "Tikvah"—f or
a better future for all the world.
I propose, therefore, that the
Jewish hospital should be known
as Beth: Tikvah Hospitalthe
home of health and hope.

Turkey Seeking Military
Alliance with Israel

TEL A V I V (JTA) — Pinhas
Rasheesh, member of Mapai, Is-
rael's labor party, was elected
mayor of Petach Tikvah, defeat-
ing the outgoing General Zion-
ist mayor, Yosef Saphir, mem-
ber of the Israel Parliament, who
has been the mayor of Petach
Tikvah for 10 years.
The Mapai's victory came as
a result of support it received
from Mapam, Mizrachi Labor-
ites and Agudah Laborites. The
candidate sponsored by Mizrachi
was defeated. Voting for him
were Mizrachi members of the
Municipal Council, General Zi-
onists, Agudah members, and
Herut.

The Jewish state was still a
dream, but Huberman was out-
spoken in his ideas. He passed
on all too soon, but his dream
is a reality.
Huberman was born near
licrarsaw in 1882, and at the age
of 10 he already was a sensation

as a violinist. In 1894 he played

at a concert in London, the fol-
lowing year in Vienna, and then
began touring the world, includ-
ing the 'United States.
During the last war, he came
again to this country and per-
sonally raised $80,000 for the
orchestra, whose personnel gave
200 concerts for soldiers in the
Allied forces. They became the
symbol and spirit of the ideal
for which Israel stands.
