TEL AVIV—Some 20,000 gov-
ernment workers staged a two-
hour strike throughout Israel
Thursday in protest against de-
lays in settling a number of
grievances, including the gov-
ernment's failure to pay ap-
proved wage increases back to
the establishment of the state.
All government services ex-
cept the most essential were
hit by the action. Government
hospitals were manned only by
emergency forces. Interurban
traffic and telephonic commu-
nication were affected, but the
seaports, airfields and interna-

JERUSALEM — An appeal to
Jews throughout the world to
intensify their efforts in b4:11-alf
of the immigrants living in Is-
rael's semi -permanent and
transit work camps was voiced
here Tuesday by Labor Minister
Golda Myerson, who has been
placed in charge of coordinat-
ing t h e various government
programs for immigrants in the
camps. She made her appeal
during a discussion in Parlia-
ment.
Mrs. Myerson, who just re-
turned from a tour of work
camps in southern Israel,
stressed that despite the great
hardships endured by immi-
grants, progress has been made
in improving their lot. She
praised the work of the Jewish
Agency and the Jewish National
Fund in this respect, pointing
out that the r e c e n t I y-an-
nounced JNF program for land
reclamation on a large scale will
provide between three and four
years of steady work for the
immigrants. The same immi-
grants, she added, will then be
able to move onto small farms
on the land which they had im-
proved under the JNF program.
