After Mr. and Mrs. Holtz of Philadelphia announced a gift for
the establishment of a trade school in Israel they became the
targets of anti-Semitism. They received a number of calls de-
nouncing them for giving their money to Israel_ instead of to
American institutions. At first the Holtz's thought the threats
came from cranks. But when the calls mounted they called the
police and for a week a police guard watched their home against
a possible attack.
Bon Mot:
When Defense Secretary Mashall addressed the Weizmann
Institute dinner last week he remarked that Moses was the archi-
tect of selective service but that the deferments Moses granted
could not be wisely used today. Under Mosaic Law the weak in
spirit, the builders of still undedicated homes and those who were
about to consumate the marriage union were excused from mili-
tary service.

Facts and Figures:

Tel Aviv's residents speak Hebrew. Jerusalem is only 3 points be-
hind while in Haifa only 57% employ Hebrew. A breakdown of the
statistics shows that 71 per cent of the men in Jerusalem speak
Hebrew against 61 per cent for women; in Tel Aviv the ratio is
74 to 62 for women; in Haifa it is 62 to 51; in Tiberias it is 72 to
'57 and in Safed, bastion of chassidism and mysticism, it is 52 to 39.

Fined; Case to Go
To Highest Court

The Court of Appeals of New
York State upheld, by unani 7
mous decision, the conviction of
two New York City kosher meat
dealers, fined $10 each for sell-
ing on Sunday, in violation of
a state law prohibiting certain
sales on the Sabbath.
The American Jewish Con-
gress, which fought the case of
the defendants, Sam Friedman
and Sam ,Praska, both of the
lower east side of New York, up
from Special Sessions through
the higher courts, said the case
would be carried to the U.S.
Supreme Court.
It has been the stand of the
clefendents that since they did
not do business on Saturday,
they had the Constitutional
right to sell on Sunday.
