Marks 30th Year
As Art Director

Members of the Detroit Women's Division of the American Jew-
ish Congress met with Mrs. Thomas Brusk, national chairman of
the Louis Waterman Wise Youth Center in Israel, a project in
tribute to the founder of the AJC Women's Division, located out-
side of Jerusalem. It will be used for children's recreation and edu-
cation and will be run by the Youth Bureau of Israel's Department
of Education.

Joseph C. Harsch, chief of the
Washington Bureau of the
Christian Science Monitor, will

ington at Detroit Town Hall, at
11 a.m. Wednesday in Fisher
Theater.
Harsch's experiences in Ger-
many were recorded in a book,
"Pattern of Conquest."

and a choir under the direction
of Harry Seigel, in the tradition-
al ceremony of lighting the Ha-
nukah candles. Mrs. Sidney Wei-

man of the Culture Commission.
Morris Lieberman is co-chair-
man.

This month marks the 30th
anniversary of Mrs. David B.
Werbe's activities as a leader in
arts and crafts projects in the
Detroit Jewish community.
Organizer, 30 years ago, of the
community's art d e p a.r t m ent
which then functioned as a
project of the United Jewish
•Ch-arities, Mrs. Werbe later con-
tinued her activities under aus-
pices Of the 'Jewish depthr. Her
work had the support and en-
couragement of Miss Mary Cap-
lan, Judge William Friedman,
the late Fred M. Butzel, Milton
M. Alexander and Blanche Hart.
Under her supervision, the
Jewish Center -formed the art
school and directed annual art
exhibits.
In 1945, on the occasion of
her 25th anniversary as Center
art director, the Anna L. Werbe
Art Exhibition was sponsored at
the ,Center:
Arts and crafts projects were
directed by her for the Jewish
Welfare Federation and she
conducted poster contests for
Allied Jewish Campaigns.
Mrs. Werbe, who also has con-
ducted art exhibits in the Art
Institute and in art centers in
many cities, has won numerous
medals for her work. She has
directed dramas and plays for
the Scarab Club, for local com-
munity groups and for syna-
gogues. She also has taught art
and at present conducts the art
classes for Young Israel:
