JDC's 1950 Tasks
NEW YORK — The 1950 tasks
of the Joint Distribution Com-
mittee, whose leaders estimate
that 500,000 Jews in Europe and
additional tens of thonsands of
Jews in Arab lands still require
large-scale emigration, recon-
struction and relief help, will
occupy the attention of 2,000
delegates from the United States
and Canada meeting, Jan. 7 and
8, at Hotel Commodore.
Harry Greenstein, former ad-
viser on Jewish Affairs to the
U. S. High Commissioner_ in
Germany; Ivloses A. Leavitt,
JDC executive vice-chairman;
Henry Morgenthau, Jr., general
chairman of the United Jewish
Appeal; and Edward M. M. War-
burg, JDC chairman, will speak
at the Jan. 8. Sunday afternoon
session open to the general
public. The JDC, which receives
its funds from the United Jew-
ish Appeal, estimates it will re-
quire $44,512,000 for its 1950 ef-
forts.
Dr. Isador Lubin, outstanding
economist, advisor to the late
President Roosevelt, will speak
Sunday morning.
A dinner session, Saturday
night, for members of the JDC
board of directors, will be ad-
dressed by Monroe Goldwater,
president of Greater New York
UJA, Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, a
JDC vice chairman and a na-
tional chairman of the United
Jewish A p p e a 1; and Leavitt
and Warburg.

Federation's Budgeting
Parley Called Jan. 22
The 1950 pre-campaign budget
conference, called by the Jewish
Welfare Federation, will con-
vene at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan.
22, at the D e x t er- Davison
Branch of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center, in order to give Jew-
ish community leaders an oppor-
tunity to work out a recommend-
ed formula for the allocation of
1950 Allied Jewish Campaign
funds.
Invitatiohs- to the conference
will go - to the boards of the Fed-
eration, Detroit Service Group,
Federation's Women's Division,
Community Service Committee,
members of the budget and
planning divisions and board
members of local agencies.

Polish Jews Rebury
Remains of Nazi Victims
WARSAW, (JTA)—The re-
mains of 2.300 Polish Jews. mur-
dered by the Nazis on Nov. 18,
1942, at Lomza were reburied at
a local Jewish cemetery by the
few surviving members of the
Lomza Jewish community, who
spent the war years in Russia.
The Nazis made the Lomza Jews
crawl a distance of almost three
miles to the place of execution
where they were also compelled
to dig their own graves.

City and State officials will
participate in the rally for the
national Civil Rights Mobiliza-
tion to be held in Detroit at 3:30
pin., on Sunday. Jan. 8 at the

held in Washington, Jan. 15, 16
and 17.

The Detroit - rally will be
opened by the Right Rev. Rich-
ard S. Emrich, Bishop of the
Episcopalean Diocese, delivering
an invocation: Father Clancy, of
the Roman Catholic Church will
deliver the benediction. Dr. B.
Benedict Glazer of Temple Beth
El will introduce the main
speaker, Roy Wilkins, acting
secretary of the National Associ-
ation for the Advancement of
Colored People, and chairman
Of the National Emergency Civil
Rights Mobilization.
•• The choirs of two Negro
churches and of the Workmen's
Circle will furnish choral selec-
tions.
Several Jewish member agen-
cies of the Community Council
have already selected delegates
for the Washington rally, and
will participate in the Detroit
program.
