New Orleans Rabbi
To Speak at Beth El

Dr. Julian B. Feibelman will
be the third centennial speaker

DR. JULIAN B. FEIBELMAN

of Temple Beth El at Sabbath
eve services at 8:15 p.m. Friday.
A = graduate of the Hebrew
Union College, Dr. • Feibelman
has served in the rabbinate for
23 years. Since 1936 he has been
Rabbi of Temple Sinai in New
Orleans.
A few weeks ago, the press of
the country hailed Dr . . Feibel-
man for offering the use of his
Temple for a meeting of an un-
segregated audience at which
Dr. Ralph Bunche, former UN,
mediator for Palestine, was the
speaker. Dr. Feibelman's offer
was made to the Interracial
Committee of New Orleans when
he was informed that no other
public auditorium in the city
was available for such a meet-
ing.

City Merkaz Calls _
Delegate's' Meeting

The executive board of direc-
tors of the Merkaz, informs its
constituents that a general
meeting will be held at • 11 a.m.
Sunday, .Jan. 8, in the •Young
Israel Youth Center, 12521 Dex-
ter.
The agenda of the meeting
will include reports from com-
mittees, and •discussion of fur-
ther work of the organization.

"Israel, Jerusalem and the
United Nations' will be dis-
cussed by I. L. -Kenen, informa-
tion director of the Israel dele-
gation to the United Nations, at
the Friday night gathering at
8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Bnai
David Synagogue.
Kenen's talk will 'open Bnai
David's annual series of Friday
night programs. Rabbi Joshua
Sperka will preside, and Cantor
Hyman Adler and the Bnai
David choir, under the direction
of Harry Siegel, will participate
in the program. _
Following the noted newspa-
perman's talk, a social hour will
take place, at which members
of the Sisterhood will serve as
hostesses.

Torah Umesorah Tells
Growth of Day Schools

Three more American sties
opened their first Hebrew day
schools in • the last quarter of
1949, a report from- Torah Ume-
sorah, national association of
day schools, discloses. T hi s
brings the national total to 81
cities, with a total of 125 day
schools and Yeshivoth.
New schools were open _ ed last
September in Memphis, Tenn.,
Syracuse, N. Y., and Milwaukee,
Wis.
The Hebrew day schobl is now
America's fastest growing medi-
um of Jewish education, Torah
Umesorah reports. The number
of cities supporting day schools
has tripled in. the past decade,
and the enrollment and total
number of schools has doubled. .

Schools are affiliated with To
rah Umesorah.

Rabbi H. Meisels Speaks
At Chachmey Lublin's
Annual Banquet Sunday

The seventh annual banquet
of Yeshivath Chachmey Lublin
will have as guest speaker Rabbi
H. Meisels of Chicago, well-
known in the Rabbinical world
as a Talmudic scholar.
Rabbi Meisels was dean of a
famous Talmudic college in
Europe until he was deported by
the Nazis to Auschwitz. After
liberation he served as chief
rabbi of the British Occupation
Zone of Germany.
The banquet will take place
at 6 p.m. this Sunday, Jan. 8, in
the Yeshivath Bldg., Linwood
and Elmhurst.

Adlers Postpone Their
Planned Trip to Israel
