LAKE SUCCESS, (JTA)—The
services of Dr. Ralph J. Bunche
as UN acting Palestine mediator
may be terminated when the
Security Council • receives • his
final report on the armistices
concluded between Israel and
the Arab states. Dr. Bunche con-
siders his mission completed, it
was announced by acting UN
Secretary-General Byron Price.
Price said he could not com-
ment on the possibility that the
Council may recruit Dr. Bunch&
to assist the Conciliation Com-
mission in its efforts at Lau-
sanne to achieve a permanent
Arab-Israeli peace, and added
that it is hoped Dr. Bunche's re-
port will be a stimulus to the
Lausanne talks to "reach a fi-
nal solution." •.
A general settlement of the
peace in Palestine is omitted
from the provisional agenda of
the forthcoming session of the
United Nations General Assem-
bly which opens Sept. 20 at
Flushing Meadow.
The agenda reveals that there
will be a discussion of the inter-
nationalization of Jerusalem, the
protection of the Holy Places
and assistance to the Palestine
Arab refugees. Other items of
major interest to Jews on the
provisional listing are the con-
version of the genocide conven-
tion into international law and
the conversion of the human
rights declaration into an inter-
national covenant.
