BBC Plans Hebrew
Broadcasts to Israel

LONDON (JTA)—The British
Broadcasting Corporation will
start a full service hi Hebrew
beamed to Israel.
The Foreign Office believes
that the program should be used
to counter anti-British propa-
ganda by the Israeli wireless and
the kind of political warfare
that was customary during the
Mandatory regime.
But the present intention is
to conduct a sympathetic, rig-
idly objective news service,
mainly about Britain and Bri-
tish interests in the Middle East.
This will be supplemented by
cultural features. The authori-
ties responsible for the new ser-
vice insist that they want to
build up goodwill and mutual
understanding without interfer-
ing or unduly meddling in poli-
tics.
